Winchester 760 powder for 30-06

Have any of you used Winchester 760 Powder for reloading 150-165 grain bullets and how do you think it compares to IMR4350? This would be for a bolt action rifle.

I have no idea how it compares with 4350 as I've never used 4350, but I experienced delayed ignition (click-boom) with 760 in two .30/06 rifles. Watch your primer brand. The problem child was CCI200. I never had a problem with those primers and other powders with .30/06.

I've used it for years in various 30-06, Model 70 Winchesters. I've loaded 150 grain to 165 grain bullets from several manufacturers. I always had great results and love the easy metering versus IMR4350. It's a very useful powder.

Ball powders need hot primers and pretty much full power loads for reliable ignition. They are not good powders for reduced loads and air space in the case.

Thanks everybody, with the lack of availability at local stores I am looking for good alternatives to IMR4350 for full powder loads. I have large rifle primers.

While local availability is a consideration for convenience you have the option of on-line purchase. Buy two or more pounds to reduce the per pound hazmat expense. 4350 is as close to the optimum propellant for .30-06 class cartridges, .270, .280. .30-06. .35 Whelan, etc. 4895 is also an excellent choice for these, it was specifically developed for military .30-06 loading.

Try to get some magnum primers for those full power ball powder 30-06 loads ... they do help with ignition .

…stick with Winchester LR primers and you’ll be just fine.

I have loaded WW760/H414 in the 30/06 for a long time using CCI 200 never a click bang. My load while not max was close to it. It has given exceptional accuracy in My Tikka T3 as in three shot cloverleaf groups at 100 yards
