My wife's cousin has a Model 1890 .22 WRF pump rifle for sale. He is asking $600 for it. I have not seen the rifle, but he says it is in good condition. I would like to know if his asking price is reasonable and if ammo can be bought readily for it?? Thanks!

If its in at least decent shape the price is right. If its like 85 % its worth more. Once in awhile they release a batch of ammo. It`s between a 22LR and .22 wmrf. Its a .224 like the mag but shorter. I have one. Mine was already customised with a pistol grip and cheek piece stock. I had mine chambered out to shoot the .22 wmrf. It can be done. My stock has a longer LOP. The rifle fits me better than any other long gun I own.

.22 WMR ammo is a lot easier to get now than it was. Winchester and CCI have made runs, large runs I think, of it and compared to 25 years ago it downright easy to get. It is a great cartridge as well. Much better than .22 LR. The trouble with it is that more development money has been spent on the LR than just about any other cartridge and you can get some darn accurate and consistent .22 LR ammo. Not so sure about the WMR. However, the late production Winchester ammo was accurate in my gun (a Remington 12C) as well as in my Single-Six and TC Contender.

If it's really nice $600 could be a score. If you want to shoot it a lot ammo could be a problem. $600 could buy you its predecessor the 62a. They shoot anything.

I totally messed up. The 62a followed the 1890 and shoots .22 short, long, and long riffle. I have one made in 1949. It's not pretty but its a shooter. I payed $300.
