Windows 8

The win 8 interface works ok on my Nokia win phone but it will be a cold day in hell when I install it on my computer. Funny thing is Win 7 is great because MS listened to users and provided what people wanted. For 8 I think some Jr Nazi at MS said screw the users... I will dictate what the Windows experience entails (trying to emulate Apple much?). There's some problems with the Windows phone people have complained about for several years and the answer from MS has always been something like "no, that's a vital part of your windows experience and we won't change it". Personally I think 8 is a bigger failure than even Vista. The one good thing about 8 is it finally helped MS's useless CEO Balmer find the door.

Microsoft are locked into a cycle producing more and more bloatware. They have to do it because they are so heavily invested in the processor industry. More bloatware means that faster processors sell well.. so you can sell the customers more bloatware until they need another computer/processor.

Anybody writing efficient code is bought out and disappeared my Microsoft.

Win 8 is a little clumsy, but once you use it a while you can settle in. They just announced a update that will make it more like 7. I have 8.1 on my desktop and 7 on my laptop.

It is UTTERLY beyond me how they EVER thought that 8 would be popular on NON-touch screen devices... which comprise the VAST majority of PC devices.

Windows 8 is as clumsy on a non-touch screen PC as Windows 7 would be on a phone.

I had Win.7 and , my machine took a **** and I had no other choice but 8. It is the biggest piece of junk OS Microsoft has ever come up with. I never had ME or 2000 which I heard both were dogs so I can't speak to them. However 8 is total junk. I only hope the hardware for 8 will support 9 or whatever they come up with next.

We bought a new laptop that came with Win 8.
Awful.
I was ready to buy Win 7, but tried the 8.1 version.
With that, its easy to bring back the Win 7 interface, or at least 95% of it.
Saved me the cost of buying Win 7, so the money could be better spent on shooting.

After unsuccessfully trying to get a new laptop WITHOUT Win8 that would meet my needs and failing, I bit the bullet and accepted that I would need to get used to something new. Updated as soon as I fired the new one up, and then upgraded to 8.1. Yes, it has the goofy tile interface, but guess what- the lower left tile gets you a normal looking desktop, and for the most part I use this box just like the last one I had running Win7. It is not as bad as I was lead to believe, at least so far.

"The pain is not in the change, but in the resistance to the change..." Seems to fit for me. Of course, word is MS is releasing Win9 in 2015...

Went to Mac 10 month ago and never looked back! I am DONE with Windows except for a breath of fresh air in the fall and spring.

My old, trusty Windows XP went the way of all flesh in November...I'm slowly getting the 8.1 but--you are right--it is not intuitive or easy to get. Today I spent one and a half hours trying to burn a data disk. Tried to follow online help; it did not help.

God is working on my patience, I guess!

MS can keep their modern line like 8.1, but they need to re-release XP. Just update it to be compatible with modern hardware, software, security fixes, etc. Keep the user interface EXACTLY THE SAME. If MS released "XP2," they would win the OS war in about a week.

Ha Ha Ha Ha, I like my Windows 8, but then again, before this I had a 1998 model Gateway computer with windows 98. It finally got to where it wouldn't recognize anything. Oh well, I have no problems with the windows 8 but I have very little computer experience.
Peace,
Gordon

Yep. My new HP came with Win 8. I thought I was going to hate it until I hit the Windows key and my old XP looking desk top popped up. It's really not that bad now. So, you can toggle back and forth between the two screens, but mostly it stays on the classic desk top.

My wife brought home a MacBookPro about four years ago... it's been a wallet-emptying experience since.... MacBookPro, 27" iMac, iPad, iPad Mini, two 4S iPhones and a 5S, and three Apple TVs.

As fas as operating systems... started with Snow Leopard then Lion, Mountain Lion and now Mavericks. All were seamless changes with some new features but no drastic user changes for average Joe to fret over. Nothing close to the dramatic change Microsoft dumped on their customers with 8.

We also have an HP Win7. No gripes at all. I put Safari and iTunes on it. The Net and media is about 95% of what I use a computer for. The HP Win7 does just fine.

Everything we had was XP. Bought a new laptop with 8.0. I did the 8.1 free download. I'm slowly getting use to it. I went to a smartphone with the windows OS.

I do like Office 365 and the Kindle reader.

My brother owns an IT company and my nephew is an engineer for Microsoft; both agree that Windows 8 is/was a failure. When I visited my mother's house at Thanksgiving, her new computer, courtesy of my brother, had Windows 8 installed. The next day, both he and my nephew had converted it back to Windows 7 (I think my threat of great bodily harm to both of them had something to do with their decision).
