Obviously a lot of ignorance about wine here, which is OK - I'm ignorant concerning a lot of things that others are passionate about, but I don't consider that to be a virtue and I certainly don't go around bragging about it. I can't help but be reminded of the apocryphal story about the woman who, upon taking a guided tour of the Louvre, remarked that she didn't see what was so special about all these paintings. The guide's response was "Madam, the paintings are not on trial. You are."
Good comparison, painting and sculpture, experts vs. common man, hipsters vs. others, schools of painting, race horses vs. poker dogs, etc. etc.
Another one is flyfishing, which is similar to wine drinking and discussions, lots of talk, some nice, some not; manufacturer comparisons, line weight snobbery, wet or dry, graphite vs. bamboo, both looking down on glass, boot foot waders vs. wading boot, hand tied vs. mass produced, natives vs. imports, brooks vs. rainbows vs. browns, eastern vs. western rivers, U.S. rivers vs. Chili and Argentina rivers, British rivers vs. U.S., etc.
Question becomes as stated, "Madam, ******** are not on trial. You are! "
