Seems like my fine feathered friends of the winter variety are usually gone by this time, but not this year.

This is a Stellar Jay, and even though a straggler will hang around year round, most are gone in the warm months:

There are two varieties here; on the left are House Finches, male & female, and on the right is a Junco:

Same two Finches on the left, a different Junco on the right:

It took me all day to get these pix, this feeder is hanging in a tree just outside my kitchen window, and they can see me just about as good (maybe better) than I can see them. Every time I'd try to get close enough for a pic, they'd scram; I'm only about four feet away from these guys in these pictures. (The hard horizontal line is the levelor blinds I'm shooting between.)

Nice shots. I think our House Finches just left within the last week and we only get Juncos in the dead of winter. No Stellar Jays in this part of TX but Blue Jays are year around residents.

Pretty pictures Bradley...What do they taste like???

Well, I used to sprinkle some of this seed down on the sidewalk by the front hedge as well. Figured out that the neighbor cat (sumbitch!) would hide out in the hedge, and ambush my little friends from time to time; at least that's what the remaining feathers would leave me to believe, so I guess "Jackie" must have thought they tasted pretty good!

Only one junco? Seldom seen around these parts except in a gregarious flock. When we spread bird seed or etc. on the ground, a flock generally stages in overhead branches, then collectively comes fluttering down like falling leaves...

My seed is about out so the birds will have to fend for themselves now. Plenty of wild food here though besides I'll get busy checking the bluebird houses soon.

One at a time for these pix, anyway.

I also get a small "flock" in this little tree and feeder. Sometimes they get a little defensive too, reminiscent of hummingbirds, but not quite as violent.
