Winthrop Holsters as possible shield holster

They are local to me and a few friends use their holster w/o any complaints.

I bought one (IWB) for my Shield and love it. The re-enforced opening and retention your belt uses insures a nice fit and I like the 10 degree cant making the grip less visible through the shirt. The break in is a little bit of an "experience." They recommend wrapping the pistol in plastic and working in up and down inside the holster to custom fit the pistol. Works......For the money and quick delivery (3 days) it's hard to beat.
IMHO

I too am interested in possibly getting an IWB and an OWB for my Shield. Their holsters look real nice on the website and are reasonably priced. Is the leather a decent quality? How well do the belt loops wear? Thanks for your feedback.

Nice quality in leather and stitching. Loops are thicker leather which is nice. DOT snaps would have been better, but have had no problems with the snaps holding. Are there better holsters? Of course, but gets the job done nicely for $55 plus shipping.
IMHO

I had a IWB Winthrop for my XDS until I got the gun back from the recall. I can't recommend their holsters enough.

I tried out a holster from Winthrop and I hated it. I really don't think they are high quality either. If I have learned one thing my life it's you get what you pay for Winthrop is low quality.

I have a inside the waistband holster from them for my shield. It's great very comfortable and seems well made.

I too have a IWB holster from Winthrop for my shield. Looks just like the one in the pic. It is well made and it works for me. YMMV.

I have a Winthrop IWB for a full size 1911A1. It works well enough. My only complaint is the while the mouth is re-enforced with leather, it does collapse somewhat once the pistol is drawn. But for the price, I don't think you will hate it.

Thanks for all that replied. I ended up ordering a DeSantis Scabbard holster from Amazon. Hope I made the correct choice. Guess I will know in a few days.

I ordered a Winthrop OWB for my shield a few months ago. The body shield was so far off from where it should be I couldn't grip the pistol to pull it from the holster. They replaced the defective holster without question. However the new holster doesn't seem quite right either. The pistol fits tight and the boning is good, but the slide of the pistol when holstered isn't parallel with the stitching. I have a host of holsters from multiple holster makers for other handguns and none of them are like that. I'm not sure whether they think it should be made like that or don't have adequate quality control. Would I buy another one? Probably not.

It's an affordable all leather holster, but found is does lack some things in key areas.

My IWB example was obtained several months months ago. The pressing method used on the holster resulted in my example being pressed off centered. I don't see much, if any real "boning" when compared to some better holster examples I have.

The slide body shield leather is cut with a weird triangle shape at the top. I am not sure of function of that, but with the excess material in that location I had to cut a significant portion of that leather away with a box cutter as it interfered with me being able to get a decent purchase. Also the loop snaps are not the one way variety and they come unsnapped during use. This holster now sits in my box-o-holsters.

Is there a good quality leather iwb holster that does NOT collapse when gun is drawn?

About a year ago I bought a Nick Matthews IWB for my Sig 239. It was thick leather and stayed open without any reinforcement. I liked it so well I wanted one for my Shield. The link to his website doesn't work so I am apparently out of luck on one. I have been told that UBG Holsters are similar in construction.

I just got a Pro Carry HD from The Holster Store, it has a reinforced opening and allows one handed re-holstering. Seems like a nice holster for the money.
