Nice!!
What's the background on your State's 2-Day wait?
Did they used to refer to it as a 'Cool Down Period' (as other States did)?

Best Guvna we have had in decades.
It was Walker that gave us concealed carry after it was vetoed TWICE by the last Governor.
You should see 'em foam at the mouth here in Madtowne.
I work on campus and it's a sight to see.

The "waiting period" has been called just that as far as I can tell and was enacted in 1976.
The exact wording of the repeal can be read at

The 2-day wait had been in affect here since 1976. That's before I became a Cheese-Head, so I don't know the original history, but I suppose it was just a result of the Governor we had at that time combined with general Carter Era ennui.

The local main stream media and usual suspects are having a hissy fit. But it's low keyed. My sense is it's not being made into a big story. It's sort of a "page 7" type story. I think the Dems are tired of reporting on their many defeats, which highlight their weakness and ineffectiveness, so they've made it a non-story. They're smart enough to know gun control is a big looser for them.

Walker signed concealed carry (which the former Dem Gov. vetoed TWICE), and will now sign repeal of the 2-day wait. This really burnishes his 2nd Amendment credentials.

Supposedly the original purpose of the waiting period was to permit time for completion of the required background check. In the pre-computer days this may have made a little sense.

Today, however background checks run by computer are usually completed in a matter of minutes. This made the waiting period obsolete. We are fortunate to finally have both a Legislature and Governor that recognizes this fact.

Good for Wisconsin.

Here in Illinois we have a 3-day wait on handguns, 24-hours on long guns. Supposedly a "cooling off" period. Recent bill to waive the waiting period if buyer is trading in a functional gun failed.

A side effect of waiting periods: Customer has to visit gun store twice, and might buy something on both trips.

Waiting periods can get someone killed: If an innocent person thinks they are being targeted (by disgruntled Ex) and has no personal protection pistol, that person can't get one until the waiting period passes. GUN CONTROL KILLS PEOPLE.

Repeal is great news. Wisconsin and Texas ought to have a lot in common.

Wisconsin has Madison, we have Austin:rolleyes:, though I don't "work on campus" (you got my sympathies) my home town is a weekender destination for much of that microcosm, so I get exposed to hopolophobia regularly (I'm innoculated and get my boosters regular like.)
The steady repeal of bad law, the accompanying responsible behaviour by those of us who have been placed in danger by gun control law, will slowly give the lie to all those concerns about the right to keep and bear.

The one time I was in Austin, I DID enjoy the music scene.
As it was around 1976, I was maybe a better fit with the community than I would be now. :)
Madison isn't so bad if you can ignore the loonies.
20 miles outside of town (especially to the west and north), one finds rolling wooded hills full of deer and turkeys.
To the south and east, pheasants can be found that have gone native.
They did get rid of the gun club that was very close (a couple of miles), but the entire neighborhood was razed as well for highway improvements.
The surrounding towns still have a lot of old time flavor and support several gun clubs of different sorts.

A little more coverage from Outdoor Hub, including the other bill signed, which allows off duty LEOs to carry on school grounds.
The big guy in uniform is the Milwaukee sheriff, David A. Clarke, Jr, another friend of ours.
He is one of the nation's foremost proponents of urban self defense and is serving his 4th term in office.
Sheriff Clarke has had an even tougher battle than Gov. Walker given Milwaukee's long history of socialism.
