I purchased my Model 1917 .45 ACP in 1968. I was 18 years old at the time and the other 'kid' I bought it from had inherited it from his dad along with quite a few other guns in his collection. He told me that his father had told him the gun had it's original finish. I just knew it was a cool looking gun that reminded me of something Bonnie and Clyde would have used.

The gun has been wrapped in a heavy cotton sock and kept in my T-shirt drawer or my gun safe for the past 44 years. I have shot it a few times but it is just too pretty for me to carry or shoot. I have never holstered the gun for not wanting to put any wear on it from the leather.

I posted some pictures of this gun on this S&W forum a few months ago to get others opinion about it being re-finished or not. I also let my two local gun dealers check it out. It seems that it has been re blued, although a couple still hold the opinion that the finish is original. At any rate I'm selling it as a very nice model 1917 that most likely has been re blued sometime prior to 1968. I have three or four full moon clips which are included. You do not need the moon clips in order for the gun to shoot.

The serial number is a fairly early one at 16,788. The price is $925 and that will include the shipping fees from my FFL to yours. I have tried to include pictures from as many angles as possible. If you would like to see another view, just let me know and I'll do my best to get a clear picture. Some of these pictures show what appears to be marring on the barrel. That is strictly camera flash. It is a beautiful gun and you can expect a worry free transaction. My Ebay is under "Digger 23". I have several hundred transactions with a 100% positive feedback rating. If interested you can contact me directly at my email of [email protected] If you would like I will email you my land line telephone for any questions you may have. If you are located near North Carolina you would be welcome to stop by our house and visually inspect the gun. I will be using Ed's Gun Shop out of Vass, North Carolina for shipping. I have used them a couple of other times and they are excellent and dependable gun enthusiasts to deal with. If you would like to make a reasonable offer less than what I have the gun listed for, please email me with that offer. I will abide by the forum rule of the gun being sold to the first "I'll Take it" followed by an email to me at [email protected] Thanks for looking and thanks to the staff at the Smith and Wesson forum for your excellent forum and classified service.
