Wood case ID

This came with a model 29-2 sn N642496 8 3/8 barrel, in factory nickel, smooth matching target grips, wide smooth trigger and wide target hammer. Gun is also magnaported, not sure if factory or done later, I bought this used, in the 80's

Wondering if case dates to gun. Sadly no tools with it, case is smooth outside, no logo 16 x 7 3/4 x 3

Looks to me like a righteous S&W mahogany presentation case for a 8-3/8" revolver. It's missing the upper and lower case inserts- the lower would have had a molded recess for the revolver and a separate small tool compartment for the various tools. Your Model 29-2 revolver dates to 1979-1980, so the case would have had a molded plastic insert on the bottom and a foam insert on the top...both covered in blue flock. It would have looked like my example shown here. There are craftsmen here on the Forum that can provide you with more information and with the inserts.

I was having connection issues when I posted so some of the pics didnt take
it has the white foam under top insert and plastic for bottom insert, just doesnt have the

Based on the information I have available the case you show is what some call a Type C and was used 1976-1978. Shipping dates on S&W guns can range a bit and your gun could have possibly shipped in that case. Smith & Wesson could have had left over inventory (cases) that bleed over into different periods of time....

sorry about the duplicate pics in last post...not sure how I did that
anyway...inside case bottom it is marked 133...inside lid it's marked 133 C...box number?.....assume both marked to keep together while building, (C) I assume is for model number.
Also inside on lid there is a sticker with Landry 4 (i guess) /2/81, box customer? inspector?
any recommendations as to what, if anything, I should wipe it down with?

I'm not sure about the sticker, but I clean the outside of the cases with Murphy's Oil Soap, and finish with some Renaissance Wax.
