I have been involved with the North-South Skirmish Association for over 50 years and have also been a reenactor. I have watched tons of movies and TV shows about the War.

I saw this uniform for sale on another forum, described as "A Professionally made Civil War Union Officers uniform."

Words can't express everything that is wrong with this "uniform".

I got hired to photograph the reenactment of the Battle at Horse Landing years ago. Got multitudes of great pics.

Those people take these seriously.

I don't know much about Civil War uniforms, but I recall hearing on a TV show that when the Nation divided, the military folks in the South had U.S. Military uniforms (blue, I guess) and that caused a lot of confusion during the early battles.

Is that true?

John?

Yes, it was a problem for a while until the South got rid of the left over blue uniforms.

At First Bull Run a Union battery was overrun because they saw a Confederate unit in blue uniforms approaching, they held their fire.
Many New York State militia units wore gray uniforms. In November, 1861 McClellan as General-in-Chief ordered that no more gray uniforms were allowed. The issued Army shirt at the time was gray, commanders were told to allow their men to wear shirts only in camp.
The first Confederate National Flag , the Stars and bars was quickly replaced because it bore too much resemblance to the Stars and Stripes.

Kinda follow the Civil War. Great comments. Mine is: Which side does this uniform represent? Stolen valor plus 150!

In the attached quote in post #1, it is supposed to be a Union officer's uniform.

According to the labels in these two new pictures, the hat is from Texas and the coat was from Rubie's Costume Company of New York.

At 1st Manassas, Thomas J Jackson, soon to be known as Stonewall, wore his US Army major's uniform, which he had worn while an instructor at the Virginia Military Academy (VMI).

Many pre war Southern militia uniforms were blue.
