This probably is like asking 'for the moon', so I certainly understand if no one can help. I didn't think it would hurt to ask, though.

Being partly disabled, I rarely travel. However, this coming Thursday(Sept. 24th) I plan to transport an elderly couple(and their daughter) to a point around 3 hours distant to visit their latest great-grandchild. I volunteered because I don't believe that this particular threesome should be traveling without having a CCW permit holder along. We'll be taking U.S. Route 30 from the Bluffton area in Allen County east to Canton, then I77 to North Canton where the child and his parents live. The plan is to have both the midday and evening meals on the road, in restaurants along the way.

My question is this: Does anyone travel this route frequently enough(a salesman, maybe?), especially between Mansfield and Canton, to have a good idea which restaurants, if any, prohibit carry? Or perhaps someone knows of any chains which prohibit carry in all their restaurants? The reason I ask is that my elderly passengers don't know that I carry, and the sight of me disarming and rearming in the car could generate some unpleasantries which all of us can do without.

Thank you, as always, for any help you can offer.

That's a rather interesting post and begs the question: "Are they dignitaries and/or protectees or should they be considered as such for some reason?" If so, why would your armed presence be so unpleasant to them? Further, in just about every state with which I am familiar, CCW status does NOT infer any LEO status. Be careful if you are considering traveling with them as a "bodyguard" or some such.

Be safe.

You can get off 77 at the 62 Alliance exit then take the Cleveland ave. exit 1/4 mile up the road.
This will put you on Cleveland ave in Canton, less than 2 miles from North Canton.
Make a right on Cleveland and head for North Canton .
Both sides of the ave is lined with mostly fast food places.
(I know of only one that doesn't allow CCW-EAST OF CHICAGO PIZZA)
All the others you are good to go.
If your not into fast food you can get a homemade burger or hot dog at Cleveland and 34th.st. on the right.
It's a ice-cream and candy factory called MILK & HONEY with a restaurant inside.
Or drive 5 min up the road which will put you on the other side of North Canton where on the left there is a gun friendly restaurant called Chicken Manor which has good food.
Or for a GREAT meal stay on Cleveland ave (Main st.) through North Canton till you come to 619.
Hang a right and go into Hartville.(About 15-20min)
You will come to a restaurant called The Amish Kitchen on the left.
Great food and gun friendly.
BTW-Don't ask what kind of pie they have.
Just tell them what kind you want.
Because if they tell you what all kinds of pies they have ,you will end up walking out with 2-3 pies with you when you leave.
Wed-Sat they also have a HUGH flea market behind the restaurant that have fresh produce as well as dairy and meat products.
There are a lot of other places to eat ,but most others also serve booze and you can't carry in them.

Sure is difficult to communicate clearly on the internet; pardon me for throwing you off. Let me try to clarify things a bit. This couple are the father and stepmother of my wife-to-be(the "daughter" I mentioned in the previous post). They are 90 and 87(?) respectively, and considerably enfeebled by advanced age. My wife-to-be is very small and quite timid. These people are not-quite-but-just-about my family. I'm thinking that most CCW folks would want to protect their family as well as themselves, particularly those who are as vulnerable as these people are.

Note also that I said that disarming and rearming "could generate some unpleasantries", meaning that I don't know for certain that it would. I'm just trying to make this trip as smooth and uneventful as possible.

Hope that helps some.

Willy,

Thanks a bunch! That's very helpful information. I appreciate you taking the time to write that out for me.

Understood, snowman. I was just a bit confused. My Mom (of similar age) pays no heed to my CCW. She's used to it by now; hope your future family will become accustomed to it, also.

Be safe.
