Would this fit?

Just purchased a M&P 10 and one of the first things I want to do is swap out the factory handguard with a free float - preferably one that doesn't clash with lines of the upper receiver. I was interested in getting the CMMG MK3 handguard, but noticed that it was not compatible with the DPMS low profile receiver. I've heard that the M&P 10 is based on the DPMS platform, and was concerned that I may have to scratch this handguard off my list. Would appreciate any input from the experienced and knowledgeable crowd. Thanks in advance.

I have no first hand experience but I think you're right about It needing to be dpms compatible. From what I have read the dpms fit the m&p10.

The M&P-10 uses a 16 thread per inch barrel nut. Any replacement handguard must use the same

Midwest Ind. , Troy or Diamondhead in .308 DPMS LOW profile are a go. Not sure about others.

My Apex hand guard is DPMS compatibale and has a clamping ring that bolts over the stock barrel nut. That method of mounting might be your best option to take guess work out of the equation.

This is pretty much what I'm aiming for.

I've contacted Unique ARs, and they seem interested in building a custom version of the Odin Works 308 Kmod forend. They just need to know what the thread pitch is for the barrel nut, and I don't know what it is.

If you were to read Post #4-

I did tell them that, and they still asked the thread pitch. Thought they were referring to something else and I was being clueless to what they were asking. Glad to know it wasn't me.

Ah. Normally there is a diameter measurement that goes with it, and it reads something like 1/4-24 which means 1/4 inch diameter and 24 threads per inch. The only thing I could find is that the M&P-10 uses the same nut as the DPMS low rail which is 16 threads per inch

Yeah, I told them that. But they told me they only do cylindrical rails. Shop I'm not going with them.

One guy on CNCGuns said DPMS told him the threads are 1-7/16" X 16 - 2A

OK, that clears things up a bit then. The guy said their rails fit DPMS upper and lowers with a thread pitch of 1.250" X 18. I'll just keep the info that you gave me for future reference.

This handguard will fit but my understanding and I did consider this rail myself. The rail on this and guard will be taller than the rail on you upper reciever.

From their website: "
Designed for our Mk3 uppers this hand guard is also compatible with SR25/LR308(High profile) uppers."

If your ok with how this would look and the fact that if you put a sight on the rail it will be too high you could use it, but I wouldn't. The M&P10 will line up with anything that has the DPMS Low Profile.

Good luck.

Unfortunately, the rails that I do like would require me to install a new gasblock.

It would be worth it just to get rid of the boat anchor S&W calls a gas block
