Would you carry one of these?

My last-ditch Onion Field gun was a Hi-Standard .22 Mag double action derringer. I have not carried it since the RM380 came out.

My 70 year old brother carries an NAA .22 Magnum revolver with a folding grip that has a pocket clip. It’s loaded with Hornady Critical Defense ammo and goes with him everywhere he doesn’t have to go through a metal detector. I’ve teased him about it, and his response? “You’re carrying two guns aren’t you? I’m just your back up.”

At work, my back ups carry Glock 22s. At home or traveling, my wife carries a S&W Model 681 loaded with Remington 125 gr SJHP .38 Spl +Ps that wears Crimson Trace grips. With my brother, I get a folding single-action .22 Mag. At least it isn’t the “credit card gun.”

No way that for a hide out gun
First choice LCP
Second, either a derringer or Baretta 25
Neither of those NAA either

I know sometimes we joke around with each other whenever we talk about bringing a stick or a brick instead of using a mouse gun but in this case.... seriously, bring a brick.

I would have to honestly say no.

That said, without getting into too much detail or putting myself or fellow deputies in a compromising position......

A small derringer (.32, .380, 9mm) carried strategically offers another layer of protection should the duty weapon and/or approved back up weapon fail.

It is literally a last ditch "get the H off of me" weapon.

5 yards would be absolute max range to even think about shooting a threat so I can not sat that keyholing at that distance is a bad thing. Imagine what a keyholing .22 mag would do
That was my first thought too. For close range the ripping and tearing of a fast moving, keyholing little projectile seems like it might be more effective than one that just punched a little quarter inch hole.
