I have a S&W M29-10 and someone is offering me a straight trade for his Colt Light Weight Officer CCO 1911. Personally, I don't know too much about this 1911 so I'm not even sure how much they fetch on average now. Couldn't find any on gunbroker. The most I really know is how they came about with the combo of Officer frame with Commander slide and its discontinued. Any of you knowledgable folks want to chime in? All guns involved are in excellent condition. The Colt has maybe 50 rounds through it while my 29 has a few hundred rounds.

Personally.. I can't see myself keeping the Colt for long.. if I did make this trade, it'd be on the basis of gaining some kind of profit to trade/sale towards possibly a Dan Wesson.

Just ran into some more discussions and articles.. not sure if it'd be worth it. From another source:
This is disappointing.
No Novak sights, an incorrect rollmark.
It's just two $800 guns slapped together with nothing else special and a $1200 price tag.
I really hope the street price is $1000 or less or I'll be waiting until 2012 for the SCO.

I think you answered your own question. Personally, I make trades when the gun I'm getting is one I've wanted for personal use. I've found that trading with the idea that I'll make a profit down the road never seems to work out. And, with that Colt being somewhat of a hybrid the market is going to be kind of limited. Unless you really want it I'd pass.

California also has a strange climate for gun sales. A guy is putting the Colt CCO for sale for $1400.. now if I could get that money for a Colt CCO.. I could easily sell it, get another 44mag (I've been eyeballing 629s) and still have plenty of money left over. I've seen 629s sell in CA for around 600-800 depending on condition.

If you are in CA, check the classifieds on Calguns.net. Because of California's roster a gun that is commonplace in most states can bring a premium. For instance, the M&P Shield is not on the roster, and I have seen them listed for $600+ in CA and they sell. Its ridiculous.

Yup, I'm a regular on Calguns.. thats where I'm getting all these prices. I'm seeing other states selling the Colt CCO for $999 brand new and used ones going as low as $650. Albeit, they're older ads so I don't know how much they're going for these days.

Personally, I don't believe in paying off-roster prices. I've gotten off-roster guns in the past for me and my friends at fair market values in other states before.

EDIT: Found a gunbroker link to an auction of the gun that sold recently.

Funny, I told him I'd think about it and he just offered to throw in 4 mags and 500 rounds of 45ACP as well as spare grips.

If you use and like the 29, then hang on to it. If you are looking for something more practical, I'd jump on the trade. Just make sure those 500 rounds aren't reloads...I blew up a German PPK with no import marks when I was young and poor, shooting the reloads the guy threw in to "sweeten the deal".

Very true on the reloads. I'll ask him.

As far as how I feel about the 29... I definitely like looking at it and handling it, but admittedly its one of the guns in my collection that doesn't get shot as much simply because I haven't had as much time to go to the range and my humble reloading setup makes it so most my resources are focused on 357 at the moment. I'll also shamefully admit that a big part of me likes it merely because its so synonymous with Clint Eastwood (Dirty Harry more precisely). It's a gun I can show to others who immediately has affinity towards, even if they don't shoot. Funny thing is when I acquired the gun, I didn't even think about it.. it wasn't until my girlfriend picked it up and went "oooooh, Dirty Harry.. you better keep this one".

It comes down to my previous dilemma of still wanting a 44mag that isn't worth as much (like a single action) so I don't feel as guilty of having longer bench warming time. I did however get my current 29-10 at a price which I don't think I'll ever get it at again and lately I've seen the prices on these go up in gunbroker (but I guess thats just all guns in general).

Yeah, the other thing to consider is that .45's are fairly commonplace. The model 29 is good for pretty near anything on 2 or 4 legs and most things on wheels in the North American continent.

I was thinking the same thing. I know I want a 44mag in my stable and I have no attachments to that Colt (or even the brand name). I was going to trade it off for possibly a low-end, basic 1911 and possibly a Ruger Bisley Blackhawk in 44mag. I prefer to have a 1911 I can work on.

The guy replied to me and the ammo aren't reloads. They're Remington.

Sometimes, you just gotta do what makes you happy. If you wait, there are probably a boatload of people who would give you a 45 for the 29. I wish I had most of the guns back that I have traded over the years, but that's how it goes.
