I have a lightly used Sig Sauer P938 that I listed for trade on a local forum. It is the limited edition Rainbow Titanium Nitrade finished slide. A fella who lives very close to me offered to trade me a brand new in box Remington R1 Government 1911. As a current R1 owner and lover, I know how good this particular 1911 is. Anyway, would you make that trade? Or would you hold out for a different offer? I'm just curious to see what the popular opinion is really. Thanks

Make the trade-"Rainbow Titanium Nitrade" decided it for me...

I'd actually rather have the 938, though.

All the "fancy finished" 938's I have handled have been a bear to get a good solid grip while racking the slide, especially for a woman. Not being a fan of small SD carry guns in the 1911 format, I would be very prone to make that trade. One of our RSO's just bought a slightly used 938 with a half dozen mags from a customer for $400 if that puts it in perspective.

I don't do SIG, so if, by some freak of fate, I found myself the owner of one, and was offered a decent 1911 for it, heck yeah, I'd trade.

"Comparative values", in my opinion, are meaningless in a trade. I got a thousand dollar gun I don't like, and you're offering me a five hundred dollar gun I do like for it, refusing the trade because, "Nah, my gun is worth more than that" leaves me with a thousand dollar gun I don't like so I don't shoot it.

If you like what's being offered, make the trade.

With few exceptions, over the past half-century I have always developed some level of disappointment after every trade. I guess I just enjoy them all a bit too much to part with any.

I completely agree with this and know exactly how you feel! One reason why I asked this poll in the first place! But, I think I'll feel alright with this trade since I originally bought the P938 for my girl. She fell in love with something else though and doesn't carry the rainbow Sig.

I'd dump the 938 in a heart beat. It's too small to actually shoot effectively in a self defense situation ( I won't carry a 9mm smaller or lighter than the CZ 2075 RAMI). When you say a use Sig 938 is "lightly used" you are being redundant. Round counts on those are almost never high, for a reason.

Whether you take the trade really depends on whether you want a Remington R1 or not.

If you are thinking you'll trade for the 1911 and then trade it for something else, that probably would not be a great plan.

LOL!!! :D Yeah, nice, solid gun but not my favorite look either. :p

That said, I am decidedly not a fan of the Remington R1. Worst 1911 I ever shot (or at least tried to shoot). You couldn't even give me one. :(

On the other hand, the OP says he has one and loves it. Go figure. Different strokes for different folks. ;)

My decision? Keep the rainbow P938 for now and seek out a better trade. :)

Do the deal

If this 938 was for her, what are you waiting for? Make the trade since neither of you have any love for it and put something in that at least you enjoy. When she falls back out of love with her PC, go looking for something else. Just my $.02 worth. :D

Different strokes for sure. So true. Sorry you didn't care for the R1. Many consider it one of the best 1911s out there, especially for the price. But, as you said, different strokes. Like millions of people LOVE Glocks, but not me. I've sold every Glock I've ever owned. I realize they are good, reliable firearms, but I'll pass! haha

I would only consider making the trade if it was the R1 Enhanced model. I would definitely not make the trade on the standard R1 Government, heck no.

My experience with the R1 comes from one of my local ranges loaner/rental guns. Their R1 was almost always broken and they could never get parts for it. Even when it worked, which was pretty rare, it was outclassed by every other 1911 in their fleet. :o

Could it be that they just had one rare lemon gun? Absolutely! :) If your luck has been better, all power to ya! :D

Range loaner/rental guns, IMHO, are a great source of data about how guns hold up under extreme/constant use. I could write a book on what I have learned from such guns.

My 938 rubber grip is my daily carry. Hides well and it's a 9 rather than a.380 and holds 7 rounds rather than the 5 of my j frame. That being said, will the Remington really replace the Sig as your girlfriends carry piece? Or do you just want to get rid of it? IMO the 1911 isn't a viable carry piece for a smaller person ( I know I'll get **** about that) but the 938 is absolutely not a bullseye shooter. Only because I've wanted to try the Remington and well, the rainbow, I'd make the trade.

Kinda tough call as I probably wouldn't get a P938 in the first place (not a big fan of SA for a self defense gun, especially a pocket gun). But if I did have a P938, I'd probably do the trade. I like 1911s, but for me they'd be used as a range gun and probably wouldn't get a lot of heavy use. Worst case scenario: If I make the trade and decided the R1 wasn't to my liking, for whatever reason, I could trade/sell it off to get something I would like.
