I'm Irish and the wife has been wanting me to get one in my family tartan. Yep, I'd wear it, but I'm not too sure where.

And for the record...Haggis is awesome! Stop thinking of the ingredients and prep and just eat some (same for Black Pudding). Yum!

Fitz, my kilt came from Kathy Lare - http://www.kathyskilts.com - fantastic service and probably the best prices you'll find. Still not cheap, but good wool is expensive. I would recommend her to ANYONE looking for a tartan kilt.

Visited Rabaul, New Britian in 1965 with the US Navy and the native men wore a kind of kilt that was a wrap-around kind of cloth skirt..had a belt to hold things together..and as hot as it was I can understand why they did it..I did buy one but never wore it..would love to get another one but here in Cornifornia I might get some unwanted attention from the San Francisco Residents..all5x

Maybe if it didn't interfere with my pantyhose..

Ummmm, seriously now, NOT LIKELY.....would take an awful good promise from the blond to get me to wear one.

Now what is wrong with the Utilikilts? I have a Workmans model and it is very nice and I really like all the pockets. It's kind of like the kilt version of BDUs. I know it's not traditional but what is wrong with a modern take on the tradition?
Thanks for the link to Kathy's kilts. I've been wanting to add a traditional kilt to my wardrobe for a while.

Homie dont' play that!!!

"I'd rather wear a kilt than eat haggis."

+1! I can tell that some of you guys just don't have the manly legs needed to wear the tartan!

And if she is not available, I'd suggest Barb Tewksbury. Barb wrote the book, literally, on kilt-making. Or Matt Newsome in North Carolina.

Ah, the unbifurcated garment argument!

I like the utilikilts. My hubby could wear a kilt... he has great legs!

Honeybun's people go back to Clan Donald and we did some of the local Highland Games when Dan was younger. Being mainly a Welsh/Irish bastard with something of a military background I managed to locate a Liverpool/Black Watch tartan kilt made in 1945. When I got it it still had the basting threads in it. The think weighs about 40 pounds and doubtless left several sheep buck naked in the making. Hotter than hell in the summer but Honeybun thinks it makes my butt look cute so............

Clan Chattam: Touch Not the Cat but with a Glove.

McTavish-MacCombie a sept of the Campbells of Argyll. Clan Tartan registered 1468. Outlawed after the Reformation and Culoden. Wasn't "re-instatest" till 1963.

Family joke: we were named McTavish and were Scotsmen when we got on the boat for New York and we were named Thomas and were Welch when we got off.

Have and do in clan colors. Don't wear one of those cheasy unikilts. That's what they make Carhart work shorts for.

A Tam is the all time best hunting hat. Keeps your head warm and dry and doesn't blow off in the wind.

R W Thomas (McTavish)

So, she reaches underneath and finds what's there, and says "Oooh! That's gruesome!" "Aye", the Scotsman replies, "And try again, lassie, it's grew some more!"

I heard it was "laddie", not "lassie".

If I lived in San Francisco, maybe.

But in the red-neck environment where I live, any man who wore a kilt might get ... "kilt".

I will and do! Clan Gunn with a wee bit of Armstrong in the mix.

I have my fathers Kilt in Modern Gunn and my old kilt in Ancient Gunn made with Vegetable dies. Both are made by Geoffrey Tailor, Kiltmakers to the Queen. When you place your order they actually weave the fabric to make it match your tartan.

These folks are amazing. 5 years after I ordered my kilt I ordered a fly plaid and when I told them it was to be Ancient Gunn and headed to the USA they asked if it was me by name! When my father ordered they asked if I was his son several years later. Now that's some memory!

Also have Prince Charlie Coatee, lace, garter flashes, sealskin sporran, dirk, skean dubh, fly plaid, the works. Only thing I wish I had was a broad sword!

In fact I'll be wearing it in two weeks as best man at a wedding. Military Ribbons and all.
