So I've only had my gun for a couple of weeks. It performed flawlessly the first time out. Second and third times out it had quite a few FTE's. Took it out the day before yesterday and got an OOB discharge. Scared the **** out of me and blew the extractor clean off. I'm glad I had read a few posts on here of this happening so I'm not the only one. My fed-ex label should be here today sometime and I'm hoping the rifle works much better when I get it back.

While I didn't have an OOB, I had to send mine in for frequent jams. Now the only time it stops shooting is when it runs out of those little copper colored pointy things.

You'll be well pleased when yours comes home from the hospital.

Had that happen to me also, and like you, I was quite shocked when it happened.

I'm surprised I haven't had an OOB discharge with as many mangled rounds I've had with my DTX7xxx. It's in transit to the "hospital" as DougStump says, so I'm hoping both ours come back feeding fine.

Exactly what happened with my 15-22. I received mine back from S&W on Wednesday, but have not had a chance to go back to the range. Looking forward to see how it operates with the repairs and adjustments.

What is the process for returning the rifle to S&W, if I should need to ?

I sent a Model 29 back years ago but the dealer did it for me.

If you ever have to send it to them call them up tell them what it's doing and they will send or email you a call tag, i have had shippers come to my door for pick up or you have to drop it off at a drop off to someone who deals with that shipping company. they will let you know what they want sent with it. needs to be sent in a plain box. then after a 3-5 days ( depends on hows close you live to them ) you need to call them and ask for a tracking number or see if its done yet.

I have been watching all the 15-22 threads and it amazes me that S&W would make and sell such a piece of plastic crap. There have been more issues with this model as new as it is that I know I will never buy or recommend one to any of my shooting buddies.

Personally, I think it stems more from the fact that people are measuring a new rifle against those that have been out since the 1960's like the Ruger 10-22. I mean, come on, you compare the other tactical 22 rifles that have come out recently and each of those have their own set of issues from ill-fitting parts to a lack of features.

Customer Service, and for that matter Quality Control, have steadily gone downhill recently and the answer why really is quite simple. These are the two departments that, overall, do not make a company money and if anything may even be money sinks. Why else do you see other outfits reducing headcount and/or outsourcing those jobs overseas?

You can live under the illusion that Colt, Kimber, Glock, or Beretta are going to be somehow better but rest assured each one of those companies will have the EXACT same issues. The ONLY times where I have seen this to be not the case is with the premium outfits that are not so much mass-market like Les Baer or STI who focus purely on high-end precision gear. The reason for this being is quite simple: quality gear is EXPENSIVE.

Not really fond of the trend where CS and QC come second but it's the direction the market has taken so I learn to deal with things with a bit less drama. I deal with that BS enough at work as it is already especially since I deal with this kind of thing every day (read: work in software QA).

Well said... especially the part about 'a bit less drama'. ;)

So I got my gun back today with the blue springs. It took 7 days to ship there, they had it for 1 and then 7 days back. I asked for two free mags but didn't get any. Gonna go test it out tonight and she how she does...

not trying to start anything here, this is a legitimate question. I love S&W but if everyone is having this problem with the 15-22, why do y'all keep buying them?

That's a fair question. Take a look at the 15-22 owners poll. While a significant number have experienced problems, many have not. Those who experience problems and send their rifle back to S&W typically get it back in a couple weeks or so and do not experience further issues. So.... you get a well operating rifle out of the box or you'll get a well operating rifle after a couple weeks.

IMO, the 15-22's salvation is that it's an AR platform and really has no other competent competitors in that specific category. That said, if the 15-22 was simply a conventional styled rifle like a Marlin, Savage, Ruger.... and had the same operating problems I doubt many folks would buy a 15-22.
