So what did it finally go for? I clicked the link but all it showed was other like items that I might be interested in.

$1408.00. When the link takes you to the page, you need to scroll down a little to see the completed item.

More than 1 person wanted it. This is the 2nd box that went for a crazy price. In general these are rare but are they $1000+ rare????

In 2007 I bought a nickel four screw model 29 with "Cokes" and the black box for $700.....a bargain then, robbery today. Sweet.

Look at the numbers today for any 6 1/2 pre 29 in high condition complete.. What is 1400 if it makes a great condition gun 5 to 6k and perfect gun 7K or higher? I am off to Tulsa have a pre 29 5" in need of cokes and a 1955 in need of target stocks.. 350 for the target 500 to 700 for the cokes? I need a box for my pre 29" 5" not paying 1400 for one rather spend it on a gun, but if you needed it we pay what we have to and in the case of this one for me 1400 might be a smart move. My point is given the cost a recent buy the 5" combination cost for a box and grips at say 2k, I am under the value of what I paid for my gun and parts as a whole. The increase for a complete gun in value might justify these high numbers. It is just math...

There are collectors that spend an incredible amount time piecing packages and turning a profit.. No offense intended to those that do. For me it is not a business. I would rather buy new fine firearms and learn about them.. There are exceptions, specifically my cokes and target grips but for me it is a repair not an enhance.. I met a man at the local gun show that has two Model 68 consecutive serial numbered NIB Model 68 LAPD stamped priced at 1635 for the pair. Money better spent of this guns than a 1400 box?

The internet and auctions continue to change the collecting of firearms and accessories.

Ten years ago, I bought a "collection" of presentation cases for $150 each and thought that was top dollar.

Everything good is winding up on the internet. Our last GS to go that way has been transitioning the past year. Most LGS's I go into now have a back room all set up with computers and family members working them on Gun Broker and EBAY all day long. It's like my wife said today. . .you can't blame them, everybody needs to make as much money as they can these days. Actually, I don't blame the sellers. I blame the stupid buyers. Stupid is infinite.

After the last OGCA show I have come to the realization that people shop at gun shows and buy on the internet.

Wow is right!!! I followed that auction as well and thought the price was crazy - and I'm a box/case collector who has paid what I thought were some crazy prices for boxes that "I had to have"...

The eBay price for the case was slightly more than I paid about 6 years ago for this beautiful package (I know that the SAT may not be original - but still nice)

Glad that I bought it when I did.:D
