WSL Powder substitute?

My 1911's are in love with the WSL powder, target load, But alas I have just finish using my back stock and it has been discontinued

I was using 200 Gw LSWC, RCBS 452460 mold, WLP primers, mixed range brass, 5 grains of WSL.

I have tried using Clays, Titegroup, Unique, Bullseye, Red Dot. These powders have all work good in my S&W 625 but they are lacking in my 1911's

I have not been able to get any of VVN powders in this area for over 5 years. So Those powders are out.

I hear your problem. I use the Lyman cast 200 gr. LSWC bullet, primer, case combo for my 1911's. Don't have a wheel gun in 45 ACP. My powder of choice is either WW231 or Bullseye. 5.0 grains gives me equal results.

I just joined a club here in MidMo that has a crony and a Ransom Pistol Rest. I intend to do some research on my loads. I want to start shooting IDPA. Want to make the power factor.

Have you looked into WW WST? 4.0 to 4.5grs of WST with a 200gr LSWC works great in my guns.

Another vote for WST. It meters well, it burns clean, and it's cheap enough to shoot a lot. I use 4.1 grains with a 200 SWC.

American Select , International Clays , Green Dot & VVN 320 are pretty close to the burn rate of WSL . With a 200gr SWC 4.2gr Bullseye , 3.8 - 4.0 Clays , 4.6 - 4.8 W231 , 4.2gr Titegroup & 4.0 - 4.2 WST are all good loads for 45acp target work . All known for good accuracy @ 50yds in the Bullseye world . Don't know if you're trying to meet a PF . If so above loads will be too soft .

You may want to consider WST or American Select. I have used both in addition to VV N-310. Also HS-700X at ca 720 fps with a 185 gr. LSWC provides excellent accuracy out to 25 yards. HS-700X is dirtier burning than the others.

WSL was a good powder, my favorite for a zippy 1oz 12ga load. Still have some around just for that purpose.

WST is a good substitute option. A lot of folks, it appears, seem to like it.

I like WSF in 40S&W and 45 ACP. It's the only thing I ever load in them, in fact. I like that powder so much that I have developed many loads using it in other cartridges not listed in load manuals and have obtained excellent performance. It's a favorite in my S&W 1911 using a Hornady 200gr JTC or a cast 200gr bullet using just slightly under max listed loads. I have shot many, many groups at 25 yards you can cover with a quarter with that load in a 5.5" Ruger Bisley Blackhawk with its 45ACP cylinder in place. WSF works well for the 230s too. The Winchester "Super" line of powders are some of their best, imho.

Oh, Winchester Super Light, I first saw you on the shelf at "Larry's" wearing your $13.99 tag. I had no idea the highs you would bring me, and to what sorrow your passing would cast.

You were the first to drive 155 gr SWCs from my Gold Cup. And many more.. but that richochet..and you were there when my Taurus 92C had it's "accident". I regret that I partialy blamed you.

I confess I was tempted away by another. The dark grains of your neighbor HS6 were..irrisitable.
But I forgive you! They warrantied that dam pistol! fn barrel lug anyways.

And all these years later I have found you! A small 3/4 canister remains of our time together. And so, sometime maybe in the next week or two..I will say to you my final goodbye.

"Larry's" is a pawn shop now.

Shot 150 rounds with you WSL. Was like old times again.

My hands were shaking a little but the target told the truth. Damn accurate, smoked a little..but not much.

Yeah, 9mm too. 147 grainers. Just like old times.
