Im looking to venture into handgun ownership. I've been wanting to purchase my father's old service revolver. It is a model 10-6 S&W 38 special . Currently it has its original 4" heavy or "bull" barrel on it. This gun has alot of sentimental value, and it is in beautiful condition.

Now this current barrel sets the gun in the "prohibited" ( CANADA ) category. There is a clause that would allow a prohibited handgun to be handed down to a direct family member, but as I understand it it needs to meet three specific criteria. The one criteria it does not meet would be the vintage. The serial number places it in a 1969-70 build spectrum. The clause states it has to be pre 1946.

I'd really, really like to keep it as close to stock as possible but may need to replace the barrel to turn it into a "restricted" handgun for which I am licensed.

Ideally I'd love to find a VGC heavy barrel to just be able to have it installed and call it a day.

Any leads would be VERY much appreciated! Not looking to take any luck, just looking to get some insight on hopefully the right direction to go in.

Thanks for the read!
