So, I have been collecting S&W revolvers for years and have acquired some really nice ones.

Lately, I have started to buy some all steel early S&W .45's as they are awesome and are cool...

I do not have a S&W 10mm, but want one in the future.

Which is best, most desirable and why? From my limited knowledge of the 10MM line, I guess I would be looking for a 1006, 1066/1076? I also saw a S&W 1009, dont know about that one either... Am I missing any? Also, mags seem to be pretty available from what I see online....

Thanks so much and would love to see some pics as well.

Will

There are the 610 and 310NG revolvers, as well. I'm not sure what you mean by most desirable. The 1046 would be the most collectable since very few were made. If you just wanted a good gun to go out and shoot, the 1006 would probably be your best bet, and probably the easiest to obtain. There is no 1009.

And magazines are fairly available, and interchangeable through all models.

There are 1066 and 1076 models around. If you like the Sig-style decocker, the 1076 is the one to beat.

I had a 1076 and 1026. I did like them, but feeding them got too pricey, and I sold them off. Fantastic pistols in every way.

At the recent Tulsa gun show I found Hornady 180 and 200 grain XTP and Winchester 175 grain Silvertips for $16.95 for a box of 20. This was cheaper that the premium 9mm boxes of 20.
Practice ammo is expensive, but for premium carry ammo it's a lot of bang for the buck.

I own a 1086 and a 6.5 inch barrelled 610. I prefer DAO so my 1076 will be up for sale soon - it hasn't had the warranty recall work done on it and I'm waiting to hear from S&W about whether they still do that.

1046 is the rarest. 1086 is next. They are both DAO. The 1076 was the FBI gun and along with the 1026 had Sig style decockers. 1066 and 1006 were the slide-mounted safety. The 610 3" Lew Horton is probably the hardest to find revolver in 10mm. All the old short-barreled 610s have gotten really pricey. 10mm rules.

And why are 310MG so pricey? Seems like a rip off to me...

some 10mm

Here's some 10mm porn.:)

As someone pointed out, I neglected to label... First pic, Glock 29 and 20. G20 has 6" Jarvis National Match barrel. Going down the left next is a Star Megastar Starvel finish, S&W 1006, S&W 1026, S&W 1066, S&W 610 Classic 6.5". Over to a Ruger Hawkeye Blackhawk 10mm & 38-40 convertible, Colt Delta Elite Gold Cup, up to a Auto Ordnance 1911, Colt Double Eagle Lightweight Officer's model with both 40S&W and 10mm barrels, and lastly a Colt Double Eagle w/ adjustable sights. The Double Eagles are the only ones like them I've ever seen. As far as the S&W 10mm go, they are all winners in my book.

The 3 S&W in the second pic are 1006, 1026 and 1066. I'll have a 1076 in there soon as I an FBI have one pinned down. I nearly got a 1086 this summer but passed to fund another project. the 1046 would be really cool but I'm not really a DOA guy. I have, however, heard that the DOA triggers on 1086 and 1046 are very good.

DesertFox, don't take this wrong, BUT!
I hate when someone post a picture like that (Gun Porn) expecting everyone to know exactly what they are by a small picture and some of the identifing marks are on the oposite side which the gun is laying on! Go figure! Hell even PlayBoy will tell the story of the pinups! :)

To the uneducated they don't know what they are looking at, other than a picture of a few guns...

If you can't photoshop some descriptions you could at least list the guns in your post!
