I'm trying to help a friend with finding some info about her father.
Ancestry.com revealed several rosters.

On one of his rosters, there is a column which says:Footnote M+S
On a casualty roster, SS(CF) is indicated.
Can anyone help with their meaning?
Thanks.

Thanks.
I'm thinking that the SS(CF) might indicate: severely sick chronic or constant fever.
He might have contracted malaria, having served in the Pacific.I've discovered that he was in the service for over four years.
The only other bits of info that came from his daughter, are that he was in the action on Guadalcanal.Served in the 6th Marines. With service dates of 3/42-4/46, I imagine that he was in some other hot spots as well.

Thank you. I'll ask her about that.

My father was also in the Navy in the Pacific theater, but I know quite about about his time there as a seabee.

His entire service record can be pulled for about $75. I recently did it for my dad (Navy, Pacific theater) and an uncle (WWII/Marines) I can dig out the link if you want it.

Thank you. My friend would like to know more about her father.
If you could provide the link, it would be appreciated.

Thank you kindly.I'll pass it along.
Some research on ancestry.com gave me his service number and the fact that he was in the 3rd battalion of the 6th Marines. A quick online search of that unit proved that it was pretty much in every battle, as well as the army of occupation.

Sometimes the American Legion or VFW from his hometown will submit a name with some info to the WW11 Memorial. It is easy to search.
