WWII S&W Victory Question?

There is a "Navy" stamped Victory that I am interested in. My question is this: Should the number on the inside of the crane match the serial number on the bottom of the grip?

Mine does not have the s/n there. It may be an assembly number.

Mine does have the s/n on the flat on the bottom of the barrel, and on the back side of the extractor star. (you may need a good flashlight to see that one).

I recognize that a Victory Model is certainly a Military & Police model, but...

Wouldn't the Revolver forum be more likely to attract those myriad forum members with the most expertise...?

There are five matching SN locations. Inside the crane is not one of them. That is just an assembly matching number.
