What is the best sight to go to on hammerless 2" barrel revolver. Standard dot or big dot? Any comments would be appreciated.

I put the XS Big Dot on my 642 and I love it. Frankly, my eyes are ****. Trifocals and too much computer work does that to you. (And getting older!) I changed sights so I could actually pick up the front sight quickly. Nothing quicker than the Big Dot.

Check out the Cylinder & Slide and D&L Sports websites. They make aftermarket sights that can be fitted to J-frames. I think that the XS setup that S&W is using for some of their revolvers, i.e. a Big Dot front with a U-notch rear may be good. I had put a set of XS Big Dots on a Glock 27 years ago and found the shallow V-notch to be much too vague to line up and get good hits under stress. That's why I think the U-notch is much better.

My EDC is a Model 60 with a "Big Dot" front and standard S&W square notch rear sight. My eye picks up the Big Dot quickly and sight alignment is no problem. It shoots a little high but IMHO the accuracy is perfectly acceptable for a close quarters defensive firearm.

I think the size of the XS front sight would depend on your vision.

In my case... I chose the larger XS Big Dot for my S&W 640 because my eyes are not as good as they used to be when I was younger. I find the larger XS Big Dot quick to get onto target and the POA vs POI does not change significantly at snubnose distances.

On the other hand... if your vision is still fairly acute, I would opt for the smaller of the XS Big Dot sights as you can pretty much use the factory cut out rear sight with very little to no POA/POI differences at longer distances.

I put the XS Regular-Dot on my 340PD, as that is what came on my M&P340. I have fairly decent eye-sight, as I can pass the DL vision-test w/o lenses. So, guess it depends on how poor yer eye-sight is, like others have said. BTW, I like the Regular-Dots really well, as the sight-channel on the 340PD was not milled for the Big-Dot.

I went and shot my 60 this morning. I was very pleased with the accuracy I was getting DA. I am curious will that suffer by using the xs?
