I recently found my Father's old model 10-5 that I thought had been stolen from his business years ago. I first started shooting this one at 12 yr old in 1962.

Any help on placing a year is appreciated. Model 10-5, 4 inch blued serial D550xxx

Thanks for the info. I will post some pic. It is rough shape bluing wise but clear bore and works great action wise.

Thank you again.

Something doesn't add up. How did you start shooting a 1973 vintage model 10 in 1962?

I'm thinking a more rational explanation is 1962 is a typo and he meant 1982?

I was running the same math in my head too! BUT, maybe the OP is that old and the one he remembers from when he was 12 was stolen and the one he just found is a replacement his father got along the way?

You are right. When I was told 1973 it didn't add up. Been shooting S&W revolers all my life and knew this one was the first one so I started checking. In 1973 I was a Deput toting my own model 19.
My Mother gave me the weapon 6/17 after my Father passing. Then she passed 10/17. I talked with my sister this week and found out. The weapon was stolen mid 80's like I said. Knowing my Father he reported to the PD a stolen " Police 38 Smith and Wesson" and did not know the s/n

Almost a year later the PD recovered this weapon (no arrest made) and returned it to my Father who identified it as his. I always thought the original was a 10-1 or 10-2 being a revolver buff. I was working oversea when the theft/ recovery happened and didn't know the whole story.

Now I know. More of the story my Father was given the original weapon prior to 1958 by my Uncle who passed. He had "removed it" from someone in an fight.

Lot of family history just the wrong gun. As our President says "Fake News" sorry guys

How's that old adage go...? "Ugly is only skin deep."??

My "new" 38 M&P proves it. Great mechanics and innards!

Hey, Bob. Clearly a late S prefix M&P. Is that one in my database?

Good shooter, I'm sure. Still has the smooth long action. I love these, as everyone around here knows . . . :)
