Hey all some may know about these. We are rural but this last few weeks we have alot of yellow files around. Let me say I dont have trash laying around . I also manage to keep dog waste cleaned in yard. Only two dogs one sheppard, one pom mix. Question here the yellow flies bite. Some say they can make you sick. I googled it got some info. Anyone have issuses with them. Never saw them in town

My wife and I went fishing along the Rio Grande earlier this week and were eaten alive by midges. There has been an invasion of these gnat like biting insects. My wife got bitten more than me and was more allergic to the bites. In fact we just returned from the drug store where we bought Cortisone. The entire Rio Grande valley has been invaded by these creatures to the extent that some residents can't leave their house. Our neighbor had to take his wife to the emergency room because of a severe allergic reaction to bites.

Wisconsin has its downsides (long winters), but at least it clears out the insects. Probably the worst to be careful about is ticks/Lyme disease. That can be bad if it isn't taken care of early.

Mosquitos and deer flies are bad in the marshy, northern parts in late spring/early summer.

Around here they call them No See Ums and we've had a pretty bad problem with them the last couple of years, and its starting to look like this year will be another one. I don't understand why, since we've had a couple of pretty severe winters with temps down in the single digits for a week or two at a time.

I'm lucky that they don't seem to like me much and when they do bite I don't have any significant reaction. Unfortunately for my wife, they REALLY seem to like her, and of course she has a pretty strong allergic reaction to their bites. Not bad enough to require an ER visit, but bad enough that every bite causes a 1"-2" diameter itchy red spot.
