I like my favored grocery store. The lights are on, the floor is clean, there is room between the isles, and I compliment the managers when I see them.

But last visit... after I checked out by card, I saw that I was charged for two bags of cat food rather than one, and the 750ml of designer whisky was not reduced 5% as was promoted; A 20 $ difference. We worked it out politely and I was happy returning the Bourbon to the shelf, and accepted cdt return for the CF. Then the next customer in line was overcharged for a tool bag from the HW section listed as on sale; A 10 $ overcharge. Neither of us would have been aware of this if we had not examined our receipts.

We are not obligated to make things easier for retail staff at our expense.

There is/was restaurant In the North Georgia mountains that over charged us for every meal......EXCEPT we looked at each receipt and made them refund our $$$ over pay........Wonder how many customers/tourist(like us) didn't check theirs and were over charged.....Seems they were running a scam.......And this restaurant is in a state park.

Seems most folks don't take them now. I always do, often finding mistakes. I call the manager and he makes it right the next time I go in.

In this age of the so called cashless society it is important to check all receipts at point of sale and keep until you reconcile your accounts. I personally enter all expenditure into an accounting program under its appropriate category, that way I know exactly where my money goes, aids future budgeting, and tax filing.
It's an easy habit to get into, and takes very little time, once set up.

I take them home and save for a couple of weeks (deep six file), then I shred them. I have wondered if credit card receipts are considered safe to just put in trash can, which is what the store does if I don't take them.

Spouse checks grocery store receipts religiously.
National chains.
Finds errors quite often.
$1.00 error adds up quickly on hundreds/thousands customers.

I add up a "Guess-ta-ment" at the house before going.

If the total is off, due to the "New Digital" thingy do's,
I check the total out at the house.

My last "Digital" savings at a store last week, was off by $28
with a 12 pound turkey, on the list.

I am bad about this. My wife is very good about it, but I tend not to pay particular attention to those details unless something is very wrong I probably wouldn't notice. Maybe I need to start hearing all of this.

Happens to often for it to be 'just a mistake'.
One of my irks is the fast food industry and their asking, "what size would you like" question.
The menu price is not what you will be paying for.
If you say 'regular', 'medium' even 'small' will get you an up charge.

Also, I should not have to ask for a receipt.
It comes out of the checkbook, how else can you balance it?
If they don't ask I just sit there until they ask I I need anything else. I'm never snotty about it but come on kid. Hand it over

The kids running the registers these days are 100% dependent on the computer in the register, if it rings up $1,000 for a bag of ice, that must be the price. We check every receipt as well. Errors are on the rise.

My wife was in retail management for years . She always checks her receipt . I'm just the opposite ..

We use our debit card for groceries, and a couple times balancing my checking account found a different amount from what the receipt said which was entered in my account. I keep those receipts until after I balance my account monthly. I so often see the receipt sticking out of the self check out machines as evidence many people don't bother with them. Shows a lack of fiscal responsibility.

When I go to pay for a meal, I remove overages from the tip. If it is beyond the tip I want to see the front end manager. There is always the card's 1-800 number and make a fraud complaint too.Ivan

Discounting the tip punishes the server. Probably isn't their fault as they do not benefit from bogus charges. It's management. See the manager.
