Took the Super Obama, Vegan, Anti-Gun dyed in the wool propagandized step kid Up North to help Winterize the boats and took the usual side trip through the two tracks to my favorite plinking spot.
Told her I think it is valuable for everyone to know how to handle, safe and shoot a gun if ever needed. Suddenly intrigued, and never having even handled a gun, she was immediately "down with that".
The 22 is definitely the way to go for 1st shooters. Once we got handling and safeing behind us, she worked on her grip and trigger till she found the target, found her group and then started working it toward the point of aim... I had to liken it to taking a kid fishing where all you do is take fish off the hook... with guns, all you do is load! lol.
So.. 150 rnds later she was really enjoying it and I was able to explain that the skill and the focus to put the bullet on target is what the majority of people enjoy about shooting.
She was surprised at the amount of skill needed. "TV and movies make it look so easy.."
..and I got a "wow" after shooting my way across the targets without a miss... heh heh
She couldn't deal with the 9. She was fearing the recoil and percussion to the point where she was hitting dirt. I put a quick end to that!
Well, that's half the family now... 100% change in each one that actually got to handle and use a firearm. The next Gen has a healthy mistrust of gov't and politics but their view of firearms must be corrected through enjoyable and instructive experiences such as this one.
... on the way home we were discussing the state of things and I quipped that it would be good not to have to explain how to use a gun in case of zombie apocalypse or similar event to which she replied:".. yeah, I was just thinking the same thing..." Light bulb on.

Really makes you feel good when you see some of the fog clear, doesn't it?

Well done! Hopefully the word will spread.

In all the gloom and doom stuff we hear about violence and guns and evil people, sometimes we forget how much fun shooting can be. I've convinced several Anti's through the years to come out and try it, using their own logic.

"Do you like, bowling, golf, or darts? Then you'd enjoy shooting." "Why?"

Becauseit's all target practice..........putting the given object in the desired location through skillful manipulation, be it a 14-pound ball, a dart or a tiny white pill.

Like Hank said above, it sure is fun to watch their eyes light up and the power of enlightenment burn off the fog around them!
