Packed up and headed over to Triple N. They aren't open tomorrow, us heathens want to shoot. I finally got the .223 "Mini MKX" dialed in. $200 rifle with a free scope almost shot a 1" 100 yd group. Wind was steady from the west at about 50 mph (firing line faces North). My 1st group was 1" high and 4" wide, the crosshairs ran right to left so the bull looked like it was an old shooting gallery with a target chain. I shot pistols Model 15, Sig228, Ruger KMK 4, at 15 yds for a change. Average 6" across which is excellent for me.
My mind was distracted from a conversation yesterday. My son texted 3x "needing to talk-now." He was at his regular range in Colorado Springs and a guy a couple ports down decided to end it. "Temple to temple" was his description, "a mess." He didn't know what had happened, range staff crashed the door and shouted "everybody out!" The boy had to look, he was shook. I realized this is his first "trauma death" and he asked for guidance. I told him he did good and it was fortunate the guy didn't decide to walk down the line executing everybody before taking himself out or my boy having to kill him. The image burns into the mind. My first was fishing a guy out of the ocean around 1968. Been in the water at least overnite, rolled him over and the fish had been at him, can see it like it was last week. My son was better this am. I did think today that the RSO's at my location are unarmed. How are they going to handle a "shoot everybody then myself" scenario. I always pack, I don't care if they know it or not. This winter I've gone enough for them to "trust" me. No stalls/ barrier between shooters and lots of "unknown level" folks on the line. I'm watching these days even if my groups suffer. And I lament the end of the cool weather. Joe
