You ever asked anyone to move at the range?

Was at the range today. Which is a great day in itself. :)
Get there and it's packed. Got stuck on the 100 yard lane for about an hour (with Glock G22 & S&W SD9VE). Because 4 guys stood and BS'd on the 40 yard lanes. Not one shot taken in 55 mins - just talking.
Finally had to walk down and say something to the 4 guys, so I could get on the 40 to get some time in. I hate being "that guy" at the range, but come on.

I like socializing as much as the next guy. But, if you aren't shooting or even attempting to shoot consistently. Please move along to let other guys practice. You wanna remember the "good old days" with a packed range. Proceed to the parking lot and continue your conversation.

So who has this problem at their range? Or am I the only one?

I know those guys. They also like to stop in door ways to talk, or beside their grocery cart in the store isle blocking the isle oblivious to the people waiting to get by. They are also known to be in line at the grocery store talking on the phone, and when it is there turn to check out they just keep talking on the phone, until someone asks them to please move and then they act all insulted.

Those guys are everywhere and they must not work because they show up 24 hours a day 7 days a week somewhere, stopping in the only place to block traffic while they chat or day dream or just think about what they want to do next.

I've never had a problem such as the O/P's, perhaps because 98% of my shooting is at an indoor range with assigned shooting lanes. It was kinda thoughtless of the group that was chatting not shooting to stay and take up limited range space.

Sadly though thoughtless behavior is becoming more of the norm these days. I just love the folks who stop at the top of the escalator to chat or adjust whatever. Please don't get me started ob behavior in airports and airplanes.

OH-well just grin and deal with it.

I traded a guy with a bottom feeder once, I was shooting revolvers only that day. He and his Gal were trying to see how many they could put down range in the shortest amount of time and their brass wasn't being stopped by the "net" between lanes. No problems for me but i think he might be considering better hearing protection.

I like a nice morning at the range and enjoy watching the others.

For me it's about relaxing and doing something fun.

There's a guy at my local gun shop that when I see his car parked outside, I just keep driving. He's just an obnoxious know it all, and I generally can't be bothered listening to him spout his nonsense.

If it's crowded, I leave or don't stop in the first place.

If I didn't drive 38 miles one way, and it wasn't my last day off before I go back to the grind of 2016 - I might have took your advice normally.

At my range, problems like that are given to the RO to resolve. Not up to the members.
That's nice, if you have an RO.

My local range is unsupervised. We have rules, but not always followed to the "T" as it were. Most of the time, a polite request, like the OP made, resolves any issue. However, sometimes there are...um...less than courteous people there.

At my large club I was associated with for over 40 years I was a RO/firearms instructor and always in some capacity as a Director or officer.(after my first year there)

During the General open times no RO is on duty at the outside ranges. If I come to shoot and only a few people are there and normal safety and general range protocols are being observed I just relax and enjoy the day. Like a off duty LEO if problems occur I will them take charge. Basically from what I saw MOST people will cooperate OK.

Range?

Never had to. We built the log pile in the woods, all our "Gun Club" members helped. Both of us. Get to practice at night with a flashlight and in the dark too. Haven't shot each other yet. Any invited guest has to bring food.

A while back my nephew and his friend went to an open public range which had several tables side by side. They were fine shooting what few weapons and small amount of ammo they had, until a group of rich young rulers arrived. They were loud, rude and boisterous. They filled up their table with more weapons that they needed or could shoot and encroached on my nephew's table as well. After they shot, they gathered their gear and drove away in a cloud of dust leaving ammo boxes, brass, and assorted trash around. However, they also left a scoped .300 win mag on the table my nephew was using. Nephew waited for a couple of hours and the rich young rulers never returned. Nephew still has the rifle to this day.

That's what I like about my range, being a private Key Club, there is seldom anyone to contend with during week days when I go. The weekends and evenings are more crowded, but usually not a problem.

Never had to at a range. I have my own places to shoot, for now.
But I have from time to time told a group that if they moved just a little, they could block the whole aisle instead of just part of it.:D
