Looks like you might have actually suppressed some noise with that setup.

No his setup is fine I would think the atf would have no prob. With that.. just not much of a pvc fan myself... but we must do what we must do

actually the PVC is 1.5" . i still dont understand that you say the electrical tape is for...

Your right, my typo, it would be extremely hard getting those shock abs. into a 1 inch tube.

as far as the tape, if you put a single layer of electro tape around the barrel where the shock abs. touch the barrel it makes a very tight fit. You will have to twist it on since it is rubber against rubber.

yep i figured that out last night. i ended up cutting the front handguard down a couple inches. Then made the suppressor 6.5 inches. All i have left is to paint it with the plastic coat spray paint. I think this setup is gonna work well. i tested it with the electrical tape on and its rock solid. shouldnt move at all when installed right. i ended up getting the sock absorbers at Advnaced auto for $4.89 a pack (you need two packs) . oh and it looks like you used a precut 1.5" pvc pipe with some kinda flare on the end. Home depot sells 2 ft sections of 1.5" pvc for like $2. I just got one of those and cut it down with a chop saw. ill post pics of the unit when i finish it this weekend.

Good deal, yes i did use the precut, im gonna either cut the lip off the one end or just grind it off, not sure yet.

My experiment was to be used for a starters guide, something VERY simple.

No cutting required, just pop in 2 shock abs and rock n roll, lol.

That is wicked cool-I'm gonna make one for my Anshutz Super grade Model 54. Hell, while I'm at it, Think I'll make one for my 5" Nickle 27.

Im gonna try to use an aluminum tube also. Anyone know a good way to paint aluminum?

Not too hard to anodize aluminum at home. Interesting project, but I still wouldn't want to try convincing an agent it wasn't a real can. We are talking about the folks who decided a shoestring was a machine gun. You'd be better off using a smaller diameter tube inside so there's no question of sound absorbency.

After reading several threads regarding fake suppressors and noticing just how cool they look on the poster's rifles, I decided what the hell, I'm gonna make one for my Anchutz Model 54. Should I use schedule 40 or Schedule 80 PVC? I'm also thinking of using high temperature flat black bar b que paint for durability but it only comes in flat black which will not look that good against the blue barrel. Would it be OK to use a lower grade of spray paint so I can get the colors to match up or should I just bite the bullet and explain to those who ask that suppressors are supposed to be flat black? SInce I use a scope on this rifle, rather than the open sights, I will probably grind off the front sight rather than try to cut the PVC to fit around it.
Well, I've got my project for the weekend now it's off to Lowe's.

TUCHE'

But who would grind down a site to fit a fake can? I spent all of $10 on this, and i think it looks good, so im good, thanks for playing though.

That is an innovative solution! Commendations to the OP for a fun project.

One question, though. The reason for having a fake suppressor is....?

You can actually take it a step further with a fake AR...just dont forget to cut the orange tip off of the barrel:D

Bob (old curmudgeon);)

Sorry for the tease, guys...just couldn't resist. It DOES look like fun.
