Your avatar

It's the crest of the US Army Ordnance Missile and Munitions Center & School, Redstone Arsenal, Alabama, my home from 1964-67.

I always liked Dizzy Dean, no doubt the most entertaining baseball announcer of all time. I'm not old enough to have seen him play, but have read that he was a pretty good pitcher in his prime. I grew up listening to him and Peewee Reese doing the game of the week.

The avatar is ol' Diz in street clothes, back in the heyday of the Gas House Gang.

Mine's a picture of white-tailed dragonfly in my backyard (although I think it's actually a female

I asked Dixie to find me a little devil to counter her pretty little angel avatar. She dug this up for me. I liked it, so it has stayed. Having been a career firefighter, it kind of fits me I think.

The department where I worked had not had a motorcycle unit for almost 50 years when the chief decided to start one. I was one of the first three officers assigned. We had one Harley Davidson Electra Glide and two Kawasaki Police 1000s. As the junior guy, I got one of the Kawasakis. This was when the show "Chips" was on and we always caught grief when riding the "rice burners." Eventually, we went to all Harleys, but I always liked the Kawasakis; they were fast, ran cool, and were boringly reliable.

Shoulder patch of the 1st Signal Brigade.

In 1966, US Army, Pacific, recommended the formation of a signal brigade to be assigned to the Strategic Communications Command but to come under the operational control of US Army, Vietnam. To implement this proposal, the Department of the Army on 1 April 1966 authorized the activation of the Strategic Communications Command Signal Brigade, Southeast Asia. Later, on 26 May 1966, the embryo unit received its ultimate designation, 1st Signal Brigade.

When the 1st Sig Bde was activated, the commander of USASTRATCOM wanted its members to wear the USASTRATCOM patch:

But the deputy commander of U.S. Army Vietnam want them to wear the USARV patch:

However, the first commander of the 1st Signal Brigade pulled off a minor end-run by quickly designing a patch based on the USARV patch using signal orange and the lighting bolt sword blade and getting it approved by the Department of the Army:

The 1st Signal Brigade is now located in Korea (1st Sig Bde Korea)

Mine is a pic of Richard Boone, who played the character "Paladin" in the TV series Have Gun, Will Travel. It was one of my favorite shows as a teenager. Paladin used his head more than his guns, and maintained his integrity. I liked that approach.

Mine was taken from a post on a really good trail-cam forum...a guy had a cam set up (in the northeast US) and this bear came along and decided to scratch his back on that tree...he was dubbed the "dancing bear" by the other forum members...I like the photo and have used it for quite a while.
