Your fastest land speed. Street Legal

I know exactly what you mean. I was cleaning up the RR after a days ride when a friend dropped by. He watched me wax & polish the Honda & then asked me "Whats it like, riding something like that?" I told him "Buddy, Riding one of these is a severe test of my maturity level, which, unfortunately, I find myself failing all to often!"

I have friends who resemble that remark.

2011 Porsche 911 GT3 RS4: 182 mph indicated and there was still some left. Ran out of road before I ran out of nerve.

142 indicated on an 85 ZX900 Ninja. Once.

Back in the day when Loudoun county Va was still country, I had a '68 Chrysler Newport. That car was at least a car and a half long.
There was a long straight stretch on a country back road and I got that thing pegged at 120, still pullin' on bias ply tires.
While that car was great on the straights and had enough room to be a rollin' party, I wanted something I could take the twisties with and me being me it had to be something I built up.
Sold it and bought a '75 Toyota Corolla SR5 hardtop. Alloy wheels, low profile tires, full ground effects, lowered suspension with a whole 3" of ground clearance, 5 speed manual trans, 4.30 rear gear, lotsa body mods and bunches of other stuff. I hadn't done a lot of engine mods yet, mostly carb and tuning. I was planning on an engine swap with a high performance engine from TRD. I got that little sucker up to 110mph but It wasn't built for top end it was built for rallyin' which it excelled at. Technically it wasn't street legal but I worked for Toyota at the time and the vehicle inspectors liked beer. The smog equipment had been removed, no a/c, non-power steering and a straight pipe exhaust.
However, things don't always go as planned.
Since my SR5 was no longer practical for everyday driving, I had a second car. I found myself driving my everyday car like my SR5, spun it around and totalled it all over a guard rail.
Well that sucks.
I still had to get to work everyday. The only choice I felt I had at the time was to sell both and get a nice practical economical car.
I sure do miss that SR5 and wish I coulda finished it. I never even got a decent picture of it.

Back in the day the ol' 65 SB Mustang would hit over 100 all the time. Street racing was in and traffic was little back in the 60's. Speedo topped out at 110. She was a fast small block, kinda a freak. Buddy had a 390 mustang and she would beat the 390 top end every time.

Stopped at a red light one night LEO pulled along side flipped his lights on, light turned green I just took my time didn't realize at the time he wanted to race. Yea 60's was the good ol'days for me miss them and all the crazy fun.

Did have a rental car back in the 80's in Texas got pulled over coming from San Antonio to Dallas, LEO big guy and his buddy another big guy standing off to the side ask how fast I was going told him wasn't sure. He gave me the ya got a digital speedometer in there and don't know how fast you were going. Told him I drive with my arm at the 12 o'clock position so I didn't see it. Didn't have the nerve to tell him it started flashing at 85. He gave me a break only gave me a ticket for exceeding 94 mph, Know I was going at least 100 in that cheap Buick Regal with three people in it.

Always take my time on the HD never got over 95 no need to just fun to drive. Wish my knees get replaced soon so I can drive her again.

My brother had the really fast cars 406, 427 and a 427 tunnel port he wouldn't let me drive. He use to pull it out into the street and just pop wheelies with it all the time. When ya stood by it while it was running it sounded like a jet sucking in all the air into the 2X4 tunnel port, now that was a fast thunderbolt. Not sure if a real one or clone, but didn't make a difference.

Nantucket Spring of 1973

I was working there prior to graduation and I had a bright red '73 240 Z (Graduation Present, sort of .. Dad put 1K down and I got the payments...) I think it was the fasted car on the island at the time as it was before the affluent summer people arrived. I started out on the edge of Siasconet on the east end of the island and then zoomed down Milestone Road to Polpis Road. I got it up to 105 and just "ran out of Road" to run on. It was fairly late at night and there was no other traffic or I probably would not have done it.

Back in the day. . . :)

My first car was a '64 Chrysler New Yorker 413/4bbl. Had a round speedo so couldn't bury it, but I had it about 10 mph past the 120 mark one day. . .

I took my wife's Jeep Commander to an out of town meeting last Sunday. Coming home about 7pm -- it was dark and no traffic. I found out (after having the car over a year) her 5.7 Hemi is limited to 112 mph. Held it there for ten miles or better. Didn't take me long to get from Longville to Remer that night. Apparently I haven't gained much common sense in the past 40 years -- it's still that time of year when the deer are moving around after dark!

Used to drive back and forth from Philly to Atlantic City at 120mph with the cruise control on in a 1972 Olds 98. Did it a lot. Stupid as can be in retrospect, but I lived to tell the tale.

When I did the tune on my Pontiac G8 we removed the speed limiter. I took it up to 144 on the digital speedo one afternoon. I felt secure and it was still climbing but damn that was stupid fast.

An awful lot off tall tales here. :) Speed is almost irrelevant after a doing it enough times. This little beastie has been clocked at over 145 with a 23 tooth tranny gear. With a 19 tooth gear 138 at 10.8 seconds in the quarter mile. With the right tune up on a cool day it would do it all day long. It now sits in my shed unused for the past 15 years. Death on two wheels.:)

140 in my prom date's father's c5 corvette. I topped an overpass where I could see for a few miles before the next overpass. I nailed the throttle, her hand buried in my thigh, and between her yelling she said "what are you gonna do if a cop sees us!?" I said "at 140mph we'll be at the after party before he gets to 100."
He told me the next day that he had a device that would tell him how fast the car had gone. I told my date a few minutes later "if that were true we wouldn't have been talking about it, we'd be fighting about it." I've done a lot of stupid things that I regret. I can't say that's one of them.

170 in a Toyota Supra TT racing 2 motorcycles on the highway. One bike was pulling away from me pretty good, couldn't imagine how fast he was going. It was probably one of the dumbest things I'd ever done in a car. Now I'm a total speed limit kinda guy... :D

142 on a modified 1996 Buell S1 Lightning. It may have had more in it. Stock it would only do 129. Instrumentation is a calibrated bicycle speedometer. Breaking 100 on a naked bike is a lot more exciting.

Scariest thing I've done is 53 mph on a mountain bike, drafting a buddy going downhill.

On my 1985 Honda V-65 Magna, 1100cc shaft driven air cooled bone stock I was puttin' along at the speed limit on the gulf fwy in a 65mph zone when out of nowhere a group of 5 or 6 crotch rockets swooped up from behind. I don't know what any of them were they all look pretty much alike to me. The two in front made eye contact and kept goosing the throttle trying to tease me into racing.

It was totally reflexive and if I thought about it I never would have done it but in that moment I was 20 years old again. I dropped down into 5th gear and grabbed me a handful of throttle. The front wheel came up and I was gittin' on down the road. I hit 6th and the front wheel came down and I was as warp speed. I hadn't done that for a long time and it scared me to death. I looked down and I was going 135mph and before I could shut it down I was at 140. By just slightly goosing it I could feel plenty of torque left. I looked back in my mirrors and all I could see was 3 or 4 very small single head lights and they'uz gittin' smaller. They was waaaaay back there.

I might mention that the year that bike was made it was the fastest production motorcycle made in America.

I slowed down to 55 mph and let 'em catch up with me. Every single one of them stood up on the pegs and saluted me. I felt kind a good and kinda stupid all at the same time

I was driving my wife's 2004 Lexus 430 SC (Peble Beach Edition) back from Florida. Somewhere along I-10 a solid line of trees separated the east and west bound lanes and the hwy was strait as a string. You could see for miles and miles ahead. It said 180 on the speedo and I wanted to see about a little bit of that. I put my foot down and held it at 145 for about 3 miles. Still had plenty of gun left just like on the Honda. The experience would probably been more enjoyable if I'd had the top up. I don't recommend going supersonic in an open convertible.

150 in my 04 MACH1 several yrs ago which is as far as the speedo goes and I wanted to see if it would get to it.

As a young twenty something in the 80s eclipsed 140 on a KZ900z1

On a race track as a passenger a little over 160..

The fastest I've ever driven was 138 in a 74 Corvette I had years ago. The engine had a little work done before I bought the car. It was just about out of breath at 138.

I have a good friend that is a Dr. and he has two nice toys. One is a 2011 Ferrari California and he had me up to 145 in it before he let off, he claims he had it to 195. I've never driven it. He also has a 2009 ZR1 Corvette and he has let me beat on it a couple times. I've run it hard, but I always back off at 120. I can't afford a ticket. But.........it will get to 120 REAL quick and you are not even at redline in third.......It is the quickest car I have ever driven.
