Here is a bit of an unusual "knife"

crafted at Old Washington Historic State Park

Unfortunately I don't have any local makers. Here are a few that I've traded for from other areas. ( I love a good horse trade! ) This is an up and coming knife maker from Hesperia MI Kevin Halverson

Thanks everyone for a great thread. I love looking at these creations that blend art and utility. I find art in guns, motorcycles and bicycles, too, but they are typically manufactured items, while custom knives are more often the product of a single individual and his workshop.

None of these are "local" to me, but . . .

We have a lot of talented local makers here in WNC, but this piece is my favorite:

dadsknife1.jpg

Forged from a 1" roller bearing (52100) with optimum heattreat (note the multiple temper lines) and a killer piece of milk-white stag. Nickel-silver guard and buttcap.

Did I mention that it was made by my son for my last birthday? :D

Here's Ed Fowler giving it a lookover at the Blade Show:

I have a few other nice pieces in the collection but this one is special.

Here's a Michael Morris PeeWee I picked up recently. Morris is in Michigan and makes knives out of files.

Just arrived home after a trip to Oregon to visit with my long time friend Robin, daughter of the greatest American knifemaker, Bob Loveless. I once asked Bob to put an edge on my buck knife not knowing really who he was. That was in Lawndale, Calif. in 1971. I still have that knife and will treasure it as long as I am alive!

Some nice knives shown .
Here's a few pics of a piece that I picked up at a small gun show in Commerce , GA .
The maker Mr Calvin Poole lives in town and hs been making knives for 30+ years .

Regards ,
George
