I had a 19-3 that I bought new in 1977. My first S&W, I could keep all my shots on a 3" bull at 50 ft. Of course that was with 24 y/o eyes. Joe

I'm not sure that it's my most accurate revolver, but the one that I shoot the best is my Model 14 K-38.

I'm surprised with the wide variation of replies.
I thought K frames would have the most replies, but lots of people find the L and N frames very accurate.

It would be a toss up between a mid 60's vintage M15 and a model 625 from about 1990. Both are scary accurate.

For me it is a 4" 15-2 that I bought very well used at a gun shop. It will shoot six rounds into a sub one inch group at fifteen yards as long as I do my part. I has bluing missing in places and worn magnas that are numbered to the gun. I think that it is a former police academy gun from somewhere. It just has that look and feel.
The 66-4 round butt is my most accurate 4". BUT i still haven't had a chance to shoot the recently purchased 617 no dash.
And I would have to go with my 4" Colt Diamondback .38....

My old Smith and Wesson 681.
I only have two 4" revolvers to choose from... a 686-5 & a 15-3. I am pretty accurate with both (relative to my novice skill level), but I would have to give the nod to my 15-3. Single or Double action, it never seems to fail me. Unfortunately, I probably shoot it the least of any of my revolvers. So given I practice with it the least, but can shoot it at a minimum on par with any of my other revolvers, I would have to give it the award for "most accurate".

As with most of the replies here, my answer is probably more which of my revolvers I shoot the BEST (as most of them are probably more accurate than I am anyway). Of my 4" revolvers, I was most accurate with a 686-6 (with a lock) which I unfortunately sold so that I could buy a 686-5 prelock Mountain Gun. I "like" the Mtn Gun better since it is more rare and pre-lock, but the full lug 686-6 had a S&W factory tuned trigger which I LOVED so for me it shot a little better. I'm looking for a local gunsmith here in Phx area that can duplicate that kind of double action trigger!

Oh! I see now it's only about 4 inchers. I have two 18 CM and two 15 CM. But hardly ever shoot them. I mostly shoot the 6 and 6 1/2 inch 14 and 1955 models.

WW2 Victory 38 Spl. Can put all 6 shots in the size of a quarter, one big jagged hole. Bought it for $140 about 15 years ago. Love that thing.

4", eh? I have 4" revolvers: a Colt Police Positive Special, a Colt Police Positive .38, and an S&W Victory in .38 special. The PPS has not seen much if any use and is around 60 yrs. old. I have not range tested it as of yet. The PP.38 shoots ok, I suppose, but the Victory, on the other hand, although somewhat beat up, and has a narrow dark stripe down one side of the bore, shoots like crazy and is the best shootin' .38 I have. It is inspirational and evocative to shoot it. Man! What a feelin'!
There are others in the pile, but those are all 6" or 2.5". All of my 6" revolvers shoot good.
The Victory likes low to mid range soft lead hollow base wadcutters. It was also my son's best choice when he was young.(Like age 10 or so.) I bought it as the daily special a few years back for $150 OTD. I have aquired some decent guns over the years that way. The trading post used to get something traded in at the shop and immediately put it in a special displsay case and often turn it the same day. It worked out for me a couple times.

She is still a great shooter, as well as my 686 4" no dash and my 66-2 4".

4 inch Bbl's only , so far its been my 686 mountain gun, Ive shot under one inch groups at 25 yds with the right loads.

My 19-4 will do about 2.25" at 15 yards with a whole box of .38s. The model 10-5 pencil barrel does a little better, but opens up a little more as the shots stack up. Barrel on that sucker gets hot much faster.

In 4", my Model 15-3 [or-4] that shows goodly use. Overall, my ~1980 6" Python in resplendent nickel, now retired except for admiring glances.

In a 4" barrel,I would say my model 15-3 is the most accurate gun I have.
