I just got a message from Fast Ammo, and they were showing their prediction of where ammo is going with tariffs applied. One particular 308 example was a 40% increase.

Now this could be an honest assessment or a marketing ploy. What do you think?

I can see imported ammo going up...domestic ammo may follow...it's a free market. Whether the potential price increases are from the manufacturer or the retailer trying to cash in is an open question.

If you want to some quality ammo...Wilson Combat has some of their ammo at clearance prices for 50% right now. I just picked up a couple of cases of .45 ACP 185 grain JHP and .38 Super. I may go back and order some 10mm just for giggles.

It will depend on country of origin.

The tariffs will, in many cases, be countered by bilateral trade agreements. This is one of the intents of the announcement of tariffs. So, there will be cases where trade conditions remain relatively the same, or will improve.
Working with trade partners directly, on a one-on-one basis, as opposed to general agreements negotiated through organizations like the WTO, is the desired outcome.

But, don’t put it past retailers to jack up prices anyways, or do what they can to stir the pot.

I think where prices will most notably increase will be for things like steel case, berdan primed ammo for countries that may not be on the best of terms with the USA.

In closing, don’t panic and go on a hoarding spree!

So I heard today that more than 50 countries have expressed an interest in coming to Washington, DC to discuss trade agreements. In addition, a half dozen or so have already announced that they intend to drop all tariffs on American-made products. Add to that the fact that the stock market barely moved today.

I think we're going to see all of this shake out very quickly, and very much in favor of the United States. I really wouldn't worry about it too much.

UPDATE: The count is now up to more than 70 countries.

Their "prediction" is simply a marketing tool to create an urgency in their customers to scare them into making large purchases now.

Will ammo prices go up? Of course. They would have gone up whether the President imposed tariffs or not. All prices on everything are going up.

I have already hoarded sufficient to outlast my lifetime so no worries......

I may be wrong but isn't the majority of gunpowder, and the key ingredient, brought in from overseas?

There is only one gunpowder made in the USA, I think, and I believe the main ingredient is still imported.

I won't comment on the tariffs and trade deals but if you need to look at some info. about the chances of those going away soon take a look in The Lounge. Thread is about 6 pages long before closed.

I was pretty well off, ammo wise

But I will admit with everything going on that when I did find some ammo at very good prices about 2 weeks ago, I may have purchased an extra 3,000 rounds

Figured it couldn't hurt

Try Target Sports in CT - they are great and ship right to your door for free on case quantities. IMHO some company's are playing the tariff game in order to start a panic buy and profit by it. The components that go into most American ammunition is manufactured in America - no tariffs!

No worries about ammo. If I ever need more factory ammo, it will be long after this current uproar is history, and the USA is thriving again.
And or all practical purposes, I have enough handloads and components stacked up, I shall sweat not.

Well you can't blame copper. It is down $1.04 a pound since tariffs kicked in. Like others I am stocked up on reloading materials. Powder from Canada was already higher than US made before the tariffs.

The drama mamas on Wall Street lost their minds like usual.

As for the second part of your question…. The only ammo I’m concerned with is 22LR. Factory center fire ammo is for special occasions, and Amateurs. And that stuff has always been expensive. But the ammo companies sure sell a lot of it.

You have to give the new tarrifs time to work and time to do what they are meant to do ... Prices will fall ... you just sit tight and hang on ....
This is going to be a fun ride and fun to watch ...
But you have to be patient ...
