I have carried guns every day for more than 40 years but rarely in a pocket. The only pocket holster I own is for a Bond Arms Defender. Anyway, I was recently asked by a family member who wants to start CCW for advice on which gun he should use. All of his experience has been with a revolver, so I think I am going to steer him toward a S&W 442 or perhaps a 42. If he insists on a semi auto I may point him toward a CS9. His wardrobe consists of T-shirts and cargo shorts so I think pocket carry is going to be his best option. My question is, do any of you carry in this manner, and what type holster do you recommend? Thanks for your thoughts

I often pocket carry --- in Wrangler jeans, mostly. I carry a 32 KelTec or a S&W Model 38 --- mostly the 38. I rarely use a holster, but when I do it's an Uncle Mike's. My guns don't shift, print or pick up lint as others have reported. Guess I'm just lucky!

During the summer months when it's too hot for a cover garment, I pocket carry my 442 in the right front pocket of my Dollar General cargo shorts, in my homemade leather pocket holster. If the holster is properly fitted to the gun and the pocket the gun'll slide right out leaving the holster behind. I make mine with 8/9 ounce leather, rough side out.

I carry my M&P 340 in my front pocket almost every day and seldom use a pocket holster. I have a couple of them but find them bulky. I mostly just carry mine loose with nothing else in the pocket.

Check out the different pocket holster desighns from Bell Charter Oak. Fit very well and very high quality. Lefty makes them to fit most small autos and revolvers

I really like my 642, but my KelTec P3AT is my go to for pocket carry..I use a Desantis superfly, around 20 bucks..I want the added protection of a non exposed trigger..
The 380 is on the bottom, a PF9 is on top..

I use either a Galco or Uncle Mikes for my 442 or Keltec .32.

+1, MSgtG and Maximum Lawman; I carry my Shield 40 daily in dress pants front pocket. Pictured is, of course, the round cut by Bob Mika.

Bob is a retired LAPD detective in Minnesota, and a genuinely nice fellow and great to work with. His product is around $40, if I remember correctly, and each is handmade and customized for the weapon model.

Hey Maximum Lawman: it's time to quit chasing the Rat and that barefoot girl....best to just let 'em get away now.... :D

during the summer i'll carry my model 36 in a pocket holster...or sometimes no holster...i have conceal carried for 37 years and it hasn't been until the past 2-3 years that i carried in the pocket..i lean more towards a 657 3" in an ankle holster

Do you prefer the Mika square cut or round cut?

Round cut for pants pocket carry. I have very few pants with squared off pockets at the bottom, so the round cut is perfect for me. The only time I use a square cut is to carry in my motorcycle jacket gun pocket. The jacket has inside chest pockets specifically made to carry a gun. I have a mika square cut holster with a squared bottom and velcro hooks that perfectly mates with the fuzzy velcro inside the pocket that was put there for that purpose. The Mika pocket holster is perfect for its intended use. And it's CHEAP for what you get. Simply the most utilitarian holster you will ever buy.

Though I have a beautiful pocket holster from Robert Mika I cannot seem to manage pocket carry at all. Either the gun protrudes from the pockets or the weight of the gun causes the pants/shorts to "bang" around my leg.

Just my results, of course.

Be safe.
