Your Thoughts on Pocket Holsters

I have a single stack 9mm that I carry either in the pocket, or IWB with a Remora 4ART holster with a sweat shield. I also have a .380 pistol I carry in a lesser pocket holster for when the 9mm is too big. I really like the Remora, the fact I can use it for different applications and its quality. It does work well in cargo shorts pockets, if they're not too deep, but that would be true of any pocket holster.

Mika & M49

I'll pocket carry my model 49 occasionally. It's especially convenient to slip in and out when I'm going somewhere I can't carry. I chose a round-bottomed Mika holster for the reason stated above, a round holster works fine in square pockets but a square one won't work well in round pockets.

Enjoy!

The single greatest advantage to a pocket holster for me has been that I do not wear holes in the thin material they chose to make pockets out of these days the first two days I wear them.

Pocket carry M36 pretty much year round in a desantis nemesis. Wife pocket carries her M36 in a Mika round. Once in a while she will grab my desantis and not realize the difference if I ask her where my holster is.

Wow, what a great response! Thanks to everyone for your insight, I'll try to close the loop when we get a gun and holster selected. Happy New Year!

Sounds like you may have decided on a pocket but just to add,
I sometimes pocket carry a S&W 642. I've discovered that the cheaper ones of nylon and synthetic leather work for me just as well as the more expensive leather ones. I'm referring to the DeSantis Nemesis, Uncle Mikes and Mika (both round & square) are ones that I currently have and all seem to work fine. All are ambidextrous and can work in both front and rear pockets. Unlike some I've seen that say they are specific front or rear and right or left.
Of the 3, I'd prolly have to rate the Mika as my favorite. It stays put and retains its shape, even when in a pocket, to reholster without being a 2-handed affair. The Nemesis does to a point but the UM is flat as a pancake when gun is removed.
The only change I'd make is have the Mika an open bottom. That would allow the gun to sit another 1/2-3/4" lower. I spoke to Bob Mika years ago about doing one and he said he would. Next one I order I may do it but the origonal sq. bottom I got is still in use plus I bought a used rd bottom since then so don't know when I'll order. Bob is a super guy IMO.
Also if carrying in large cargo pockets get the sq. Otherwise I'd go rd.

If he's usually wearing cargo shorts he's got to have a belt. Have him check out some IWB holsters. They make a few models that you can tuck a t-shirt in and still not see that you're carrying. I've never been a fan of pocket holsters. I'd rather just throw a small .380 in my pocket.

I carry my second gun in a Passport pocket holster everyday. It is virtually a "one size fits all" and keeps the Glock 33 free from lint etc.

For summer carry, my snubby rides in a Tuff Products holster with the pouch for an extra speed strip.

Uncle Mike's pocket size 3 here. I added a piece of foam padding, like the type that's used for a sleeping bag mat, cut to fit inside under the bottom side of my J-frames. That portion of the holster folds under and the whole thing rocks backward. With the insert, it stays upright.

My EDC is a G33 (and a G26 before that) and I have used a Kramer pocket holster for those guns for well over a decade. It works well and allows me to appear conspicuously unarmed for tactical and professional reasons. I'm pretty big and muscular, so I can get away with that size gun in a pocket holster; some can't.

The biggest drawback is that drawing from a seated position is a real ugly experience, and tactics for that scenario have to be considered.

+ how-ever-many on the Mika. I have them for my J's and for my PM9 - great holsters after you break them in.

ANOTHER MIKA FAN

I've only tried a few pocket holsters; probably won't
experiment further, either.
I have Mika's holsters in round and square, depending
on the trouser pockets. They always work as intended, and I
couldn't be happier. Comfortable, too.

My daily-carry is either my M&P340 or my 340PD in a Desantis Nemesis or a Don Hume leather in-the-pocket. Most often, though, it is the Nemesis. Daily pocket-carry is ongoing for years.

I pocket carry my 642-1 airweight stainles steel all the time as a second gun, my first is in a galco paddle holster CA 44 Spl tucked under my harbor bay high quality shirt. Like someone else said the cheap ones work pretty well.
Adding a bit of baby power to them helps extend their life a bit, but $15 or so dollars is pretty cheap. But I wear cargo shjorts a lot, and when I have to put on regular size, the pocket is not quite large enough for the clothes I have. So I add an IWB for that.
