Got a laugh watching YouTube vids about finger placement on handguns by so called certified instructors....

1/3 say first joint middle of finger pad.
1/3 say first joint crease.
The last 3rd are all over the place...2nd pad, finger tip, somewhere in between.....

One instructor showed with a Glock 17 that it made no difference.
He shot 6 4" targets...2 with just finger tip, 2 with middle of finger pad 1st joint, and 2 with first joint crease. He shot from 7 feet..all 6 were bullseye.

As he said, it depends on the length of your fingers, the size of the handgun grip and how your hand fingers and gun grip all come together. He claims he has a friend who's fingers are so long he releases the mag release with his finger still on the trigger....?????(not real sure about that).

Point is...take with a grain of salt some YouTube instructional vids and shoot the way you are most accurate...there really is no right way/wrong way...except in the minds of some........

I thought everything on the internet was always true. :)

I completely agree, there is some great stuff out there, but a lot of junk too. It gets frustrating sometimes when you're looking for good information. That's why I gave up gun reviews a long time ago.

Ahhhh youtube. The wonderful world of tactikewl ninjas, most the only experience is what they read, or saw on the internet.

Bonjour

Tex Grebnor has a great video.

My dad lost the tip of his trigger finger when he was 9. He served 23 years in the military including combat in the ETO with no marksmanship issues.

I'm sure today's YouTubers would have crucified him.

A friend of mine cut off his trigger finger at 16. He was drafted, and then shipped to Vietnam fully capable of using a firearm in combat.

I know someone who did this (well I did know him. I read his obituary a few months ago). He was always going on about safety violations of others. Rule #1.

I'm not sure what to think of this one.

a) shooting yourself in the leg on the draw;
b) videoing yourself with the target almost touching you;or
c) posting it to YouTube. (Of course it could have been videos by someone else. Someone who may not like you)

The ones that make me want to throw up are the reloading experts, who just received the reloading press two weeks ago.

Have a blessed day,

Each to their own

I'm not sure there is a right way when it comes to finger placement. I recently put some skateboard tape on the front strap of my Springfield 1911 to see if it was worthwhile having it checkered. First thing I noted was that my grip needed shifting when I reached for the mag release (I have average sized hands with fingers slightly shorter than average). I hadn't noticed this happening before.

I ended up changing my grip so that the fingers of my right hand gripped the butt with the first joints running down the outside edge of the front strap. Meant I could reach the mag button without having to slide my fingers across the tape.

I have to admit by eliminating the sliding back and forth I am experiencing more centralised hits on the target so maybe......

My favorite YouTube idiots are those making videos about Swiss Army knives and admitting that they don't know the names of the tools and their functions.

I'd think anyone making a video and presenting himself as an authority should know whereof he speaks!
