Hi:
"Wandered" in my local Wal-Mart yesterday. Naturally stop at Sporting Goods Department. Large gun cabinet and ammo shelves EMPTY ! Every box of ammo, regardless of gauge/caliber GONE. Rocks and clubs anyone ??

Went to Wal-Mart yesterday for something, wandered over to the Sporting Goods because it was close.

Mostly EMPTY Ammo shelves, NO 22LR, some 30-06, 270, a few Shotgun shells, a very GRIM LOOKING shelf area.

I'm not in the market anyway as I plan ahead, but I can see why some folks are distressed.

Ya know... I think it's a hit or a miss sometimes. Yesterday I called 3 Wal-Marts within 30 miles of me and asked about .223/5.56 and .22LR ammo. Only ONE Wal-Mart had the Federal 100 rounds value packs of .223 for $32.99, they had 4 boxes. So don't get discouraged, just keep checking.

I don't go to walmart any more because I know they got nothing in stock... Got a new shield but no ammo :( My FLL gave me 10 rounds when I picked up the gun :D

On Sunday, at the Wilkes-Barre Walmart, I was able to buy Remington 30-06's for $21.99, and they had .357 rounds available. (self-defense rounds.) They did not have any 9mm FMJ.

Our walmart's don't sell guns. They used to but got in trouble with the ATF for keeping bad records I think. But they don't sell guns anymore. But they do sell ammo when they have it to sell that is. But luckily I live close to 3 walmart's and kind of close to 5 or 6 and the ones farther out still sell firearms.

I've got 4 walmarts nearby. One usually has a decent supply of center fire ammo (which I don't need).22s are rarely seen.Did stop by that particular store early one Sunday morning and found several boxes of win 555,so I grabbed a couple

Why are we judging ammo & gun availability by Walmart? Not all Walmarts even stock guns & ammo. To me, going into Walmart today to buy ammo would result in the same as in 2002. NONE! Never did and i doubt they ever will

Wal Mart ain't alone. Stop by your local dealer. I expect it really hurts them not having any inventory to sell. WalMart not so much, as they sell Cheetos and beer also.

Funny how our perception can change, I was on the north side today and close to that walmart and went in to get a package of hamburger meat, naturally I drifted over to sporting goods and asked the guy behind the counter if he had any 45acp or 9mm, expecting the same answer as always. Yep, he said I have 3 boxes of Tulammo 9mm left, well I am in pretty good shape on ammo really and a couple of months ago I wouldn't have bought that brand but today....you bet I'll take em! $10 dollars a box of 50 so I don't think the price has gone up that much.

To jimmyj, I am sorry but I had to smile when I first read the start of the thread. I thought "wow, he just discovered what we've been discussing for months on the forum?" But then I realized not everyone checks the forum or WMs and assorted other ammo suppliers like some of usdo on a daily basis.

So, yep welcome to the gun and ammo frenzy of 2014!

Walmart is the best place around here to buy ammo. Same stuff that the LGS's have (or dont have rather), at a lower price. No brainer. Inventory is not any better though. Ask them when they get their daily truck and when the ammo cabinet will be stocked. I have to be at the counter at about 6:15 pm to have a chance, and thats only if they happen to get any ammo in that day. Depressing, but necessary.

I haven't seen ammo in awhile at my Local Wally World, went by lgs today after work they did have about 10 each 50 rnd boxes of 22lr but sign on register said they would only sell 1 box per customer plus they wanted over $9 for it. .18 more than I wanted to pay moved on, seemed like everything at that lgs has went up in price, way up.

I called my LGS yesterday and asked if they had any .22 ammo. The guy had the audacity to laugh at me over the phone. (we're pretty good friends) He then said that he has been calling all of his distributors and no one has ammo, but the local Gander Mountain gets their ammo delivery on Thursday night and stocks the shelves for Friday. He also said that last week there were guys camped out in the parking lot at 5AM Friday morning waiting for the store to open, and there were a lot of people waiting to get in. I do not need ammo that bad thank goodness.

LUCKED OUT.

happened to be visiting in Florida last week, and my wife actually wanted to run into Walmart. While there i walked over to the Sport Department, and lo and beyond, this kid is pushing a shopping cart half full of ammo over to restock....Before he could think about a 3 box limit. I grabbed 2 boxes of Winchester 555 .22LR, 1 box of Remington .380, 2 boxes of Federal 9 MM and a 100 box of Winchester .40 cal. nice haul in these hard times. I beat feet out to the Garden Dept, and paid at the register there.. Some times, you just luck out.

This is the same thing that happened after the 2008 election.

Four years ago I was in a Wally World and lo and behold, the proprietor of a small ammo and camo and gun shop was in there to see what they had. He needed some .380 for customers.

During these times a lot of people are scrambling to get what they can for various reasons . . . some to hoard, some to "plink" and some to resell.

HOWEVER . . .

It will be the same thing that happens in the future if there's some big national or local emergency or disaster, and those without will be at the mercy of the wolves.

Me? I'm not participating in the frenzy for firearms or ammo this time around. I learned my lesson and have a modest, but otherwise sufficient amount of ammo this time in case of a natural disaster.

Things WILL get better again, and prices will come down. Now is NOT the time to buy . . . unless one HAS to.
