Song Lyrics

Here's y'all an example of just awesome lyrics. Don Henley's, "Learn To Be Still".

It's just another day in Paradise
As you stumble to your bed
You'd give anything to silence
The voices in your head

You thought you could find happyness
Just over that green hill
You thought you would be satisfie
But you never will
Learn to be still

We are like sheep without a shepherd
We don't know how to be alone
So we wander 'round this desert
And wind up followin' the wrong gods home
But the flock cries out for another
And they keep answering the bell
And one more starry-eyed messiah
Meets a violent fairwell -
Learn to be still
Learn to be still

-SOLO-

There are so many contradictions
In all these messages we send
(We keep askin')
How do I get out of here?
Where do I fit in?
Though the world is torn and shaken
Even if your heart is breakin'
It's waiting for you to awaken
And some day you will -
Learn to be still
Learn to be still

Whats this song called??

And she said, "How are you Harry?"
I said, "How are you Sue?
Through the too many miles
and the too little smiles
I still remember you."
It was somewhere in a fairy tale,
I used to take her home in my car.
We learned about love in the back of the Dodge,
The lesson hadn't gone too far.
You see, she was gonna be an actress,
And I was gonna learn to fly.
She took off to find the footlights,
And I took off to find the sky.

Oh God said to Abraham, "Kill me a son"
Abe says, "Man, you must be puttin' me on"
God say, "No." Abe say, "What ?"
God say, "You can do what you want Abe, but
The next time you see me comin' you better run"
Well Abe says, "Where do you want this killin' done ?"
God says. "Out on Highway 61".

On a rainy, windy morning that's the day that I was born on
In the old sharecroppers one room country shack
They say my mammy left me, same day that she had me
Said she hit the road and never once looked back

Verse 2:
And I just thought I'd mention, my Grandma's old age pension
Is the reason why I'm standing here today
I got all my country learning, milkin' and a churning
Pickin' cotton, rasin' hell, and bailin' hay

Chorus:
I've been to Georgia on a fast train honey
I wudn't born no yestday
Got a good Christian raisin' and an eighth grade education
Ain't no need in y'all a treatin' me this way

Verse 3:
And now sweet Caroline, I don't guess I'll ever find
Another woman put together like you all
With your wiggle and your walkin', and your big city talkin'
Your brand new shiny Plymouth rag-top car

Verse 4:
Yeah it's hurry up and wait, in this world of give and take
Seems like haste makes for waste every time
And I pray to my soul, when you hear those ages roll
You better know I'm gonna get my share of mine

Chorus.(x2)

Ain't no need in y'all a treatin' me this way

Read dozens of books about heroes & crooks...
And I learned much from both of their styles...

I went down To the Mary Carter paint store, I said' give me one of them "Smith and Wesson", Magnum 44s!
'Cause there's a man that the law let loose And justice was not done' This man, he killed my wife' And my only little son,
I'll never forget the way He looked all through the trial, He had a big named lawyer' And he had that smirky smile,
Oh yeah, he got you off' On a technicality' But you'll have to grow wings and fly' To ever get away from me,
'Cause I got rights' I got rights too, And this time there won't be no damn lawyer And system to protect you
But I'm gonna read you, I'm gonna read you your rights' You gotta right to know' that you're gonna go' To hell, one of these black nights.
And when the trial was over' He had the nerve to say, that's the way it goes, I said, "Well, hoss you better get you some corks' Cause you're gonna have to plug up a few holes"
Guess he thought I was talking' Just to pass away time, But it kinda looks different now On his knees begging for his life'
Hey, I got rights' I got some rights too' And this time there won't no damn lawyers And systems to protect you'
But I'm gonna read you' I'm gonna read you your rights' Because I want you to know that you're gonna go' To hell' one of these black nights,
Now, this time there won't be no damn lawyers And systems to save you. *

At least it sounds good when the Russian Army Choir sings it....

I've seen the bright lights of Memphis and the Commodore Hotel
And underneath a street lamp I met a southern belle
Well, she took me to the river where she cast a spell
And in that southern moonlight she sang her song so well

He ain't seen me crazy yet." :D

" I bet you didn't know, but under that live oak...
My favorite dog is buried in the yard."

I just ordered up a beer when some guy walked in and said who owns this car with the peace sign, mag wheels, an four on the floor?! Well he looked at me and I damn near died an decided Id just wait outside, laid a dollar on the bar and headed for the door.

Back before music was politically correct

"The Sweetest Gift" Linda Ronstadt with Emmylou Harris - YouTube

One day a mother went to a prison
To see an erring but precious son
She told the warden how much she loved him
It did not matter what he had done

She did not bring to him
A parole or pardon (free)
She brought no silver (brought no gold)
No pomp nor style (longed to see)
It was a halo bright
Sent down from heaven's light
The sweetest gift
A mother's smile

She left a smile you can remember
She's gone to heaven from heartaches free
Those walls around you could never change her
You were her baby and ere will be

She did not bring to him
A parole or pardon (free)
She brought no silver (brought no gold)
No pomp nor style (longed to see)
It was a halo bright
Sent down from heaven's light
The sweetest gift
A mother's smile

It was a halo bright
Sent down from heaven's light
The sweetest gift
A mother's smile
The sweetest gift
A mother's smile
