My parts arrived so I thought I would share a few details of my M&P 10 modifications. I got in a YHM clamp type low

profile gas block, a 12" Troy TRX-308 handguard and a VLTOR IMod buttstock.

Here is the upper receiver in the vice and ready to dismantle. The receiver blocks are from Armalite and will work on AR15

and AR10 flat-top uppers.

Barrel nut removed. There was a good bit of grease on the threads.

Torquing the TRX barrel nut. It only took about 40 foot pounds to line things up.

The handguard cap was .032 thick so that was how far I was going to gap the gas block.

Setting the gas block.

Got busy an forgot to take pics of the finish. Everything went together well. There is very little clearance between the bottom of the gas block and the inside of the rail so I will be changing the gas block for another.

Here is the finished product.

I put another 40 rounds through it today. No malfunctions and it will still shoot MOA or better with good ammo when I do my part. I patterned some 60s vintage TW and LC ball ammo today which shot 2-3 MOA.

Nicely done. Thanks for the thread and pics.

Looks like I may have one of these in my possession in the near future. I'm still deciding between the Troy TRX or JP rail.

Just an update. The low profile gas block I used was a YHM clamp-on. There was very little clearance between the bottom of the gas block and the inside of the rifle length Troy TRX. There was contact between the gas block and hand guard with upward pressure on the hand guard.

I replaced the YHM gas block with a VLTOR clamp-on gas block. Much more clearance and the problem is solved.

I'm not sure I'm going to keep this Troy TRX hand guard. I prefer a quad rail. If I can find a decent quad rail that fits I may be offering this up for sale.

Looks nice!! throw me a PM or email if you decide to part with it!!

I'd also be interested if you decide to replace. Send me a pm or email if mastergunnera8 passes it up.

Looks great. Is this the correct barrel nut to use with the low profile rail?

Troy TRX 308 DPMS BattleRail Barrel Nut | AR15/M16 Rails

Is there anything else that will be needed to change the rail besides the rail itself and low profile gas block?

That looks to be the correct barrel nut. One will come with the rail though.

You'll need a barrel nut wrench and receiver blocks for the vise. The blocks I used were from Armalite. I have several AR-10/15 barrel nut wrenches in my toolbox and I don't remember who made the one I used on this rifle.

Looks like I won't be shooting for awhile. Broke my right wrist 2 weeks ago.. :(

Thanks for the info. It wasn't clear if the barrel nut came with the rail. Sorry to hear about your wrist.

No cast yet. Had surgery last week. I go in next week for removal of the stitches and a cast. :)

Having a hell of a time finding a Troy 13.8 hand guard. Anyone know any sellers who ARNT out of stock. Thanks

This is good info. Thanx!

When my M&P10 grows up, it wants to be like yours.

Ordered a Troy MRF-308 low profile from Grabagun on Monday--just got word it shipped. Still list it as in stock. Hope mine shoots as well
