Picked up a S&W 6926

Were the frame decocker models rare? I dont think I have ever seen one.
I ask because I got an original owners manual and other paperwork from a guy off ebay for my 5903. He included a Hogue grip that he said he didn't remember what it was for. I got it today and the left side of the grip is trimmed at the front top.
After seeing that pic I am guessing it was trimmed to fit a frame decocker model.

The frame decocker models were subject to a recall - two punch marks under the decock lever (visible when actuated) indicate service under that recall.

It doesn't have the 2 holes. Should I send it back to get the recall fixed? What would be the turn around time on this? Will they mail it back to a FFL?

Thanks in advance!

Call S&W customer service and provide model and serial number and ask if it was subject to recall. If it was they will fix at their expense!

Keep us posted...

Call S&W - they will send you a FedEx label.

Text of recall -

SMITH & WESSON
MODEL 1026, 1076, 4526, 4536, 4576, 5924, 5926, 6924 and 6926 PISTOLS

RECALL: Models affected have frame mounted decocking levers.

Other model Smith & Wesson pistols are not affected by this advisory.

We have determined that it is possible for a Smith & Wesson Third Generation 9mm, 10mm and .45 ACP pistol with a frame-mounted decocking lever to malfunction so as to make the pistol inoperable.

In order to safeguard our customers from the possibility of such a malfunction, Smith & Wesson will inspect and, if necessary, modify these pistols free of charge. Owners of Smith & Wesson 9mm, 10mm and .45 ACP pistols featuring a frame-mounted decocking lever with model numbers listed above, and which do not have two dots stamped on the frame underneath the decocking lever (when the lever is depressed) should send their pistols and accompanying magazines to Smith & Wesson for a no-charge inspection.

Please send your pistol and magazines to:

Attn: Service Department-DL

If you have any questions regarding this product advisory, please call 800-331-0852.

Disregard, it does have the 2 holes. It's behind the decocker! I was looking below it. Crisis averted!

Welcome to the S&W forums and what an entrance you have made! That is a rare version of the 69xx series. For $425 you got a heck of a deal!

Well, there's not always two punch marks on frame of decocker S&W pistols that have been back to S&W under the Product Service Advisory (recall). In April 2007, I found a really nice 4576 at on of my LGS. I bought it and then found out about the two dots and recall. I called S&W Customer Service. The rep confirmed the Product Service Advisory and said he would issue a call tag. I told him I thought the side plate was a bit loose, too. He said that I should reference the Product Service Advisory, note anything else in a letter and send it with the pistol. I did just that.

I got it back in I about two to three weeks. They replaced the side plate, inspected and tested the pistol. They also did a complete cleaning and lubrication of the pistol. They did not place the punch marks under the decocker. So, I kept a copy of my letter and the S&W factory work order. And, of course, the gun has functioned perfectly for the past 12 years. :)

It is my understanding from my conversation with the S&W rep and some reading I've done that the problem had to do with the sideplate, decock lever spring and grip.

To OP, that sounds like a great find followed by a really great price.

Welcome to the forum. A great find and, yes, I'm envious. I hope you have many more. (See? I'm trying to be gracious. It's not easy.)

So this gun looks new and unfired but I can't be 100% certain. Everyone has their price and I'm curious what I could get for it. I don't really want to shoot it because it's a neat find but I'd hate for it to just sit in my safe if someone would enjoy shooting it.

It includes the original case, 2 mags, and the recall has been fixed.

Whatever you do, you must refuse any offers from TTSH in this forum. He's trying hard to control his gun buying and has asked all of us to help him.

:D :D :D :D

LOL!!! :D I was waiting for that! :) The problem is that I can't compete money-wise with the Jep. No matter what I would bid, that evil moneybags Jeppo would bid even higher! And you know how those high-stakes bidding wars on GB turn out... BOTH bidders end up losers! :o

You scored bigtime and I congratulate you! :) I hope you are buying a few lottery tickets after such a great score! :D

I say enjoy it for a while. It will only go up in value. And when the time comes for you to sell, I'll surely be lurking.

You're probably right. I don't need the money right now. I think I'll just leave it as a safe queen for the foreseeable future.

And his support group'll be there to convince you that TTSH needs all our help to resist.

No support group needed Jep! My battered IRA (which I jumped out of at the December low point) is all I need to look at to convince myself that some sales must precede buys for the foreseeable future. :o

I did say that it would take something very special to get me excited again and a Model 6926 certainly would qualify! :p A frame decocker is really the only thing my 3rd Gen collection lacks unless you want to count PC guns. But transfer costs locally keep going up, Up, UP making imports more expensive and less attractive than locally sourced guns. :o It's part of why I didn't jump at the Model 3954 in the classifieds. :(

So the order of the day is to proceed with caution. Show coming up this weekend. Got to have some cash in my pocket just in case something really, really special jumps out at me with an offer I can't refuse. ;)
