I've been getting a call that my phone automatically sends to spam from Rapid Recovery almost daily for a few weeks.

Decided to call the number to see what's going on. Girl answered the phone and told me there was a judgment against me for a $1,000 loan I took out in 2014 thru First National Bank. I never took out a loan in 2014, only loans I've taken out in the past 30 years was for my house in 2004, and when I bought my Tacoma in 2018. Paid the Tacoma off in 3 payment, and the house off in 2016. Never in my life took out a bank loan for cash.

I told her, I'd look into it, and talk the next time they called. She said this would be the last call, and that they were going to put a second judgment against me to garnish my wages, or get the money from my bank account.

Called the Clerk of Courts to see if they could tell me anything. Only thing that showed up was a judgment I put against a contractor a few years ago that had been taken care of. I'd think the court would know.

I'm guessing this is just a scam? She did say I now owed around $2,300, but could work it out to a payment of $1K.

Kentucky Department of Revenue SCAMMED me

Kentucky Department of Collections / Kentucky Department of Revenue SCAMMED me

I received a notice of a Jeopardy Assessment for Failure to File a sales tax return for the 2021 year..

I did not operate a business or have any sales in 2021.

I never had Federal Employer Identification Number. I never had any employees.

I have no knowledge of having any business tax account registration.

I have no knowledge of currently having a Sale Tax Number, if that is the correct term.

Please explain: How an account was established for a nonexistent business.
Why a nonexistent business with no sales is required to file.

I did not operate a business or have any sales in 2021.

Many years earlier, I had a few sales at gun shows and flea markets.
Taxes were paid after each show using forms provided by the shows sponsors.

Tried to contact Department of Revenue office with questions three times.
Called three times and was on HOLD/IGNORE for over an hour each time.

Sent e-mail message requesting information using their web page - "Contact-Us" address.
No reply.

Sent a letter to Department of Revenue using address from their letter.
Certified Mail / Return Receipt
Receipt received showing they got the letter.
Again NO RESPONSE.

Finally sent letter with copies of all letters to Governor's Office.
Please explain: How an account was established for a nonexistent business.
Why a nonexistent business with no sales is required to file.

Ombudsman contacted me for more details.

Ombudsman was very apologetic about the Department of Revenue and its lack of response.

The problem was finally corrected.

I've been in a battle with a piece of human garbage that tried to scam me after I had him do some work for me with only a verbal agreement over two years ago. I refused to roll over and pay his attempt at a gross over charge so he sued me in small claims civil court. I believe both he and the worthless Magistrate are both members of the Masonic Lodge and the Magistrate refused to even let me speak in court and ruled against me. So I just didn't pay it. And now over two years later the scammer seems to have finally given up. The fact you are ordered to pay in civil court doesn't mean you have to pay. It is the responsibility of the scammer to try to collect. He has been unable to garnish my pension or Social Security check so the poor old scammer spent money on court fees for nothing. I feel soooooo sorry for him.

Did they send you anything by mail? By law they have to. If they didn't it's because they don't want to commit mail fraud. Phone calls are meaningless. They should be able to send you a copy of the judgement. Make them mail it.

I love screwing with scammers. It's fun to see what lengths they will go to try and get your money. Sometimes, they will ask why I am giving them the run around or hard time and I tell them the longer I keep them on the phone, the less time they have to try to scam someone. I have been called quite a collection of names, none of which my mom ever used.

Sure, sounds like a collection scam to me. Third-party collection organizations are required to send you a 1692g debt validation notice within 7 days of initial contact regarding a debt. The letter is required under the Fair Debt Collections Practices Act and must include the original creditor and their contact information so you may dispute the debt should you need to do so. I am not an attorney but spent a bit of time in recovery for large bank and this is collections 101.

I would suggest going on-line and complaining to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau CFPB for short.

When I was working for the bank, we had some crafty crooks look at public records to find outstanding judgements. They would create a letter from a fake law firm offering ridiculously low settlements. For example, a 10k judgement resolved for $500.00. Consumers would pay them thinking they resolved the debt.

Good luck.

It sounds like a scam to me BUT just in case you may want to check your credit report to make sure there isn't anything on there.

Probably not the case but if someone used your information to get a loan back in 2014 they probably wouldn't use your address.

Then the notice that has been required would be returned to them or thrown away by the person at the address.

You should be able to check your credit report for free so no cost to take a peek and make sure.

Over the last four or so years I have received three phone calls from phony scam bill collectors. All were women in my case. I told them very explicitly what they can do with various parts of their anatomy. None ever called me a second time. If you actually have a judgment or delinquent bill, believe me, you will know about it long before some bill collector contacts you. If you know you have no debts in collection you can be assured it is a scam contact and have some fun.

I saw a new AI someone created to do just that. I think they called it "grannyAI".
It comes across as an older woman who is trying, and failing, to cooperate with the scammer - due to being somewhat "technology challenged".
It's whole purpose is to keep scammers tied up on the phone as long as possible - so they waste time and therefore can't scam as many people.
Genius way to use AI technology!

I got a scam call from "the IRS" a few years ago telling me that they had a warrant for my arrest and if I didn't want to go to prison I had to give them my credit card information to pay.

I told them that I'd love to pay what I owed, but I'd spent all my money on hookers and Cocaine. I'd be waiting out in the driveway for them to show up and arrest me. Maybe they could get me into rehab while I was serving my sentence.

I haven't heard back since.

I never received anything by mail. They had 3 addresses on file, one was my real address, one was from many years ago, and the 3rd one was my folks old Florida winter address.

I'm gonna check my credit. My ex does have all my info...address, social security number and stuff. I had a lock on my credit for years after the divorce, but took it off a while back.

There are many reverse lookup internet sites where you can find addresses and phone numbers for about anyone, sometime even cell phone, and will tell you even who has a cell phone number with a fairly high success rate. I have used them. This is a good one and is free. Free Reverse Phone Lookup - Cell Phone or Landline | Spy Dialer
