Which 9mm 1911 for EDC

And because we like pics, here’s mine. 8 rounds of Gold Dot 124gr +P backed up by 9 more will hopefully get me out of a bad situation as a non-leo “old guy” I might have to extricate myself out of. Outside of the sight change I put Talon grip tape on the front strap. During colder weather it’s my 5” Baer 1911 in .45

Tisas Tank Commander. Old school styling, all steel forged slide and frame, checkered walnut grips, Cerakoted to resemble Parkerizing, but with nice visible sights. About 33 oz plus 9 rounds of 9mm so probably doesn't weigh much different than a loaded 16-18 round polymer gun. I hear very good things about them but have never owned one but have owned Rock Island, High Standard, Iver Johnson and other budget foreign made 1911's and they have all been excellent.

Considering going cocked & locked for ccw. Looking for recommendations . I’m a competitive shooter in my “golden years” which has caused me to consider this. I shoot the single action pistols much better. I also, like a lot of folks, shoot larger pistols better than smaller ones. Weight is also a consideration. All comments appreciated!

If a 9mm is the caliber you're wanting for SD, EDC, CCW, I would suggest looking at a few of the new Micro 9's that have come out over the last decade. YES - I know they are plastic, I realize they have no long glorious history and most can't hold a candle to a 1911 for looks or trigger pull either, but for the purpose of CCW/EDC just make the most sense - at least to me. God forbid you ever have to use it, no sleep will be lost on the plastic Micro 9 the PD will more than likely take for the investigation. Just a suggestion to consider.

I have a Springfield Armory EMP Ronin I rather like.

I saw something that makes me think the EMP is discontinued, which is too bad. It is nicely shrunk down to be the right size for 9mm. The classic 1911 platform is best sized for 45 ACP and Super 38.

I admit if I was willing to spend the money, a 1911 in Super .38 is fascinating. Not responsible, but fascinating.

I'm surprised nobody mentioned the Star BM. It's not new but handles very much like a 1911. Just a nice size and weight for a 9mm pistol. Shoots good and it's not plastic.

I also have one of a Tisas 1911 A1 US Army 9. It is very well made, full size and mimics the military issue look very well. It offers no advantage as a carry pistol than any other 1911 aside from price. They also make a steel frame Commander sized version, very much like the old Combat Commander. If it had an alloy frame, I'd be tempted.

If I'm carrying a 1911 in 9mm, it will be either my Dan Wesson Valkyrie or Vigil, both in commander size. I am also on the lookout for a DW Guardian so I'll have 3 to choose from. I am a firm believer in DW 1911's especially their 9mm pistols.

I just got a Dan Wesson PM-C. A discontinued model, but NIB. I have to put the obligatory 500 rounds through it to break it in. It is 9mm. This gun, just feels special. Kramer leather due in 2 weeks

I also have the Glock 36, 45acp. That is a nice lightweight. Leather is C Rusty Sherrick

One thing to keep in mind if considering the EMP Ronin is that it’s not made to standard size so if any parts changes are wanted/needed they will be proprietary.

The original emp 3” or emp4 is hard to beat. I have both. New 3” are on gunbroker. The 4” can be had sometimes on there. I prefer the stainless slide over the new emp ronin with the blue slide. I’ve put atleast 1k rounds thru the 3” and a few hundred thru the 4”. Both shoot and function excellent. The 3” is in my carry rotation in a Mitch Rosen owb holster. Haven’t bought a holster for the 4” yet.

Not really a 1911 Guy - But-
A few ago my Buddy and I bought a collection which included a Dozen 1911s.
The one that I thought about keeping was an Officers Model in 9mm.
