Durham NC repeals gun registration

With all the "Gun-Control" fears beating us down daily, the actual trend is more "Pro Gun." This is one more step in that direction. Congrats to the people of my home state.

Super. I am glad to see some of this type of bull corn get thrown out. I just wish some of the other states/republiks on the left coast as well would get on the bandwagon.

Definitely a step in the right direction. Next they need to get rid of the purchase permits.

I understand NC wants a piece of the pie for each gun bought, but if they could streamline the process a bit I'd be happy.

Colorado has had a law against gun registration for some time.I'm not into conspiracy theories but I think we might be naïve if we think that "no gun registration" means that no one is keeping tabs on us.

My first firearm purchase took about 30-40min for the background check to run.Since then it has only taken maybe 5+ minutes.I doubt technology has improved that much in a year.I get the feeling that somewhere between the State and Federal level someone is keeping tabs on us without admitting it.

Most of my purchases have been revolvers in various calibers but I sometimes wonder what might happen if they were all AR-15's and ammo was being bought in cases instead of bricks.

Haven't seen an increase in black suv's in the neighborhood lately but always on the lookout.:)

Just thought I'd throw this out there for opinions.

Durham's gun registration, was a selective enforcement issue as well is the wait times, 30 days for a handgun purchase permit. It's now 90+ days for a C.H.P.

If I remember correctly from my North Carolina CCW class, Durham County was the only jurisdiction in North Carolina (as of two years ago) that had a statute requiring gun registration. Matter of fact, a student mentioned it (the class was in Cumberland County) and the instructor, who had not heard of it, called an LEO buddy in Durham County on the spot, and confirmed it.

I'm glad to see it's been changed now. Between pistol permits and CHL licenses, there is enough state law in place already, and the additional requirement in Durham County was unnecessary and onerous.

Thanks for the heads up, ladder!

Well, this was of particular interest to me since for the past several years we've made trips down to NC looking for relocation possibilities. Coming from a state with handgun registration and hoops, I really wanted to do my homework.
Initially we were pretty much set on Buncombe County, then a few friends moved to the Wake County area(NO,not Cary, lol), Wake Forest, Rolesville. So we've been around that area looking also.
We also have good friends in the Clayton area, but it looks like they're moving to the FL panhandle. Back to FL they go, Lou was a Miami cop.

I heard some talk of NC going Constitutional carry, any chance of that happening?

Haven't heard any of those rumblings, but we have Republican legislature and a Republican governor right now, so you never know what they'll come up with.

North Carolina is a pretty good state to retire to, and I'm likely to stick around here once my own time comes to hang it all up. I won't stay in the Fayetteville area but there are lots of good options depending on your druthers and interests, so PM me if you want any opinions. They, and 25 cents, will get you a cup for coffee at Starbucks....:D

Move to the Clayton area or at least Johnston County. Taxes are less than Wake county.

Again, depends on your druthers and interests. I know a couple spots up in the mountains that would do me very well, or the Pinehurst area if you're into golf, or the beaches, and the list goes on and on. A couple of nice undiscovered spots too, which we Tar Heels will keep to ourselves! :D

Wake and Johnston counties have the most unfriendly to guns Sheriff's in the area. Neither will sign Class 3 paperwork and make permitting as difficult as possible.

^ This is why I am glad to be in Harnett co.Thank you to sheriff Larry Rollins for not being like his neighbors.
