need CT permit to buy shotgun ammo?
So, me being the CT pistol permit carrier in the house had no idea until today that a CT resident can't buy shot gun ammo without a permit. My son goes to the local shop and they wouldn't sell him the slugs for his Mossberg 590. He was shocked and pissed. CT, since the Newtown incident has really become strict. Has anyone else experienced this? I haven't had much time to go to the range lately and haven't purchased any bullets lately to be aware of this change.
Now I am wondering if I buy them for him if they need to know what I own?

He needs to get at minimum an ammo certificate to buy ammo, or a long gun permit or pistol permit are fine too. Stupid but that is CT.
The only decent thing I have noticed is a lot of the news reports on illegal guns from the gangbangers in Hartford seem to be starving for ammo, many have been only having a couple bullets in it. One case was a snubby and 1 round. But it is at the expense of infringing on law abiding citizens rights which is wrong.
Pretty sure it is illegal to even have pistol ammo on yourself outside the home or range without a permit. (Without a permit/cert)
we can't purchase ammo in mass or ny due to similar laws. RI is still ok as far as I know.

Welcome to oppression. In MA you can't even buy brass without a permit. A couple years until retirement and then I'm gone. Good luck.

A hunting license should be good enough for shotgun ammo. Stupid laws

Being 18 years old (as per federal law) should be good enough for shotgun ammo. Stupid laws.

I have been told by some gun stores that there are now NICS checks in several states in order to buy ammo and this is the large increase in NICS checks.

Any questions why people are hoarding ammo? It's only going to spread. I'm taking my NJ self to the LGS for a little something for the shelf.

I have always maintained that the anti-gunners were wasting their time on guns, and should focus on ammunition.

$35 for 5 years for an ammo or long gun cert, probably costs the state more than that to run the background checks and make the permit.
Luckily a non-issue for most everyone I know already has their CCW permit, but I can understand why it has a lot of people upset.

Yeah Conn. sounds just as bad as Ma. Won't sell any ammo to non-residents.

Sounds like the gang bangers will soon start being burglars .. stealing ammo from homes if they know the people in them have firearms ..

So is it illegal for a CT resident to go to, say, PA to buy and bring back all of the ammunition they want? How about reloading? Is it regulated also?

Yes, a CT resident can buy ammo and reloading gear in other states. Not including MA. They can buy a MA hunting license, even apply for a non-resident carry license (@$100/year), but no ammo. Out of state residents can get a CT ammo purchase permit for $35, and shop in CT stores.
Pretty simple, huh?

The state of ct is no safer after the new town incident. They think it's safe. I'd like to see the governor cruise through Hartford or new haven in the bad areas after 1am.

Today the Newtown CT families want to sue Bushmaster for building the rifle that caused all the problems, Not one word about a parent legally buying the gun for their son, who just happened to be a lunatic! Who should bear the responsibility for this nightmare?

yes, CT made a bunch of changes in the last couple of years. I would have never imagined in my life-time that I would see magazine restrictions, long gun permits and also ammo permits.
Just think of explaining this to someone who wants to start the sport - the amount of work and $$ to buy a box of .22s!
Better hang on to the knives you own - who knows what new 'ideas' will come up tomorrow.

They are walking all over the Bill of Rights and Second Amendment.
I think it's high time we take our country back from the politicians.

Bushmaster is owned by a big conglomerate, meaning deep pockets. I've heard that deep pockets can attract lawsuits. They often just hope to settle.
