Supreme Court sides with NRA in free speech dispute with New York regulator - CBS News

Washington - ” The Supreme Court on Thursday ruled in favor of the National Rifle Association in a dispute over whether its free speech rights were violated when the top financial regulator for New York state pushed banks and insurance companies to sever ties with the gun rights group.

The court said in a unanimous opinion written by Justice Sonia Sotomayor that the NRA "plausibly alleged" that the New York regulator violated the First Amendment by coercing regulated entities to end their business relationships with the NRA in order to "punish or suppress" the group's pro-gun rights advocacy.

There's a lot more in the article.

Very interesting that the opinion was written by Justice Sotomayor.

This might have some relevance for me. The AG in WA. is trying to put ACLDN (Armed Citizens Legal Defense Network Inc.) out of business in WA. SAF is all over that dude and has his number.

“Government officials cannot attempt to coerce private parties in order to punish or suppress views that the government disfavors,” Justice Sonia Sotomayor, the most senior liberal, wrote for the court.

“Ultimately, the critical takeaway is that the First Amendment prohibits government officials from wielding their power selectively to punish or suppress speech,” Sotomayor added.

This is key, because it will also extend to what the DOJ did and has continued to do with Social Media companies about suppressing posts it doesn't like.

As for those of us who live here, not only will it not matter, we'll likely get something else imposed by our bully governess in retaliation. She's really petty like that.
I did read somewhere that the constitution of the United States is not recognized in New York. Sad, but that seems to be something that is spreading to other states as well. I do not think this bodes well for the union.
