Remington 38 Spl +P 158 gr SWC

I have a dozen of these factory rounds but no box. They are marked +P. Probably late 70s vintage?

Wished they still made this round...I like the SWC.

Bet it duplicates Remington's 38 Spl 158 gr LSWCHP + P round?

Apparently not enough market demand for it. But it's not difficult to load your own equivalent.

IMHO alone......

..... they will probably be a little stiffer load than the new stuff. And yeah, reloading your own gets around all that.

The pre-1990 ammo would break 800fps in a 38 snub nose.

You are sadly mis-informed, or challenged in doing internet searches! You aren't alone, none of the three previous posters took the time to look this up either.

Remington still loads their version of the "FBI Load". Winchester still does too, although production may be seasonal with both makers. I have bought the Remington at Cabela's, and see it every time I have looked during the past year or so.

The old Remington load was catalogued as R-38S12, it has simply been re-packaged under their "High Terminal Performance" line as product RTP-38S12. I have both and have chronographed them side-by-side in the same gun and there was no statistical difference in velocity, 2-3 FPS as I recall.

The Winchester version of the FBI load is catalogue # X38SPD.

I have heard that mentioned a few times. I have an FBI Law Enforcement Bulletin from June 1975 that would seem to indicate otherwise regarding 158 gr standard velocity from 2 inch barrels.

Remington 158 RNL 656 fps

Federal 158 RNL 738 fps

Winchester 158 LHP 841 fps (original load prior to +P designation)

The way I read the OP he is asking about their LSWC ammo R38S6 not their LSWC/HP ammo R38S12 but I could be wrong.

Remington 158 LSWC is now RTG38S6

Winchester 158 LSWC is now X38WCPSV

New product codes, same product, still in production.

Just because your stores don't stock it doesn't mean it is no longer made! "They don't make it anymore" is a common excuse for many gun shops when what they really mean is "We don't stock that", "We don't know how to order that", or "We can't stock everything so buy what we have."

+1 Local grocery stores too. Not making "Jif" peanut butter anymore, yeah. Don't believe anything you hear and only half of what you see.
