148 gr 38 Special wadcutters

Yea, not allot of people shoot these any more. I can't remember the last time I saw it on the shelf (or was asked to get it at the LGS I work in.)

If you shoot this stuff regularly, it might be time to start reloading. There is no shortage of companies that sell the bullets themselves. Getting going in reloading would pay for itself within the first 15-20 box's if you do it right.

148 gr. hollow base wadcutters are a great choice for those who want a mild recoiling and accurate round to shoot in .38 SPL for plinking or match shooting. Here is some top quality ammo at great prices. I believe the price includes shipping. I suppose that Zero wouldn't produce the ammo any more, if there wasn't a demand. Roze Distribution: 148 GR WCHB, $ Per 50, RELOAD

I ordered a couple of boxes from SG Ammo a couple of weeks ago. They're my go-to source for online ammo purchases.

Atomic Ammunition has the 148-Gr. HBWCHP. The hollow point is
achieved by reversing the bullett. It was a favorite years ago. Only
ones being loaded now, that I know of. Mr. Google can lead you to
numerous suppliers of the standard 148-Gr. HBWC in .38 Spl.

+ 1 on Zero / Roze they're the cheapest for ammo that's accurate . You can chose between new brass , reloaded brass or send your brass & they'll load it for you . It's best to call them as sometimes the website doesn't get updated promptly . If you reload their bullets are also first class .
Prices are very reasonable : new brass $15.98 per 50 , $145.25 per 500 , $276.67 per 1,000
Reloaded brass $ 12.97 per 50 , $117.93 per 500 , $224.62 per 1,000
Reload your brass $8.69 per 50 , $77.11 per 500 , $ 146.87 per 1,000

Much cheaper than anything from the big 3 . If you shoot a Model 52 do not buy S&B or Fiocchi , they're OK in a revolver but do not function well in a 52 .

Today, the ammo company's are pushing the 38 special with a
flood of the 130gr jacket bullet for light use.

Most people like the idea of no leading, of their barrels and faster clean up times.

Last time I bought a case of Remington 148 target ammo, it was $$$.

Unfortunately most retail stores focus on SD ammo and FMJ practice ammo. They rarely stock any ammo with lead bullets especially full WC ammo. Most times you must buy online especially if you are looking for quantity.

Ammo Seek is a great resource I usually suggest using. Since I reload I no longer need it for most ammo but still use it for components.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and wonder if factories prefer FMJ in their loading processes over lead, I can't imagine that a FMJ is any cheaper to swage than a swaged lead bullet that the same factory produces. I get the whole appeal to costumers of no barrel leading being a big issue, but I also get the feeling the factories and loaders probably don't like them as much either.

38 wadcutter

SG Ammo. Sportsman Guide Ammo I believe. I just received my 2 case order yesterday (8th) Fed Gold Medal Match 148gr wadcutter @ $400.00 per 1000./ .40 cents ea. I trust Gold Medal Match in many different calibers. None better factory loads IMO

At $20 to $24 bucks per box for the 148 grain WC's, I would definitely consider a Reloading Outfit! You could make the same loads (assuming you already have the fired cases) for about $5.50 per box of 50 rounds or about 1/4th the price. You would pay for your Outfit in no time at all! :)

.38 full-wadcutter is all I shoot in my S&W 686. Yes, it is almost impossible to find at gun stores, and even hard to find a huge gun shows. I usually end up with Fiocchi, which I think is fine. Order the full wadcutter for clean holes on paper targets. Midway has them in-stock as of today (many have them "out-of-stock" all the time, which does us no good at all). Many have semi-wadcutter, which I don't want.
Midway's price of $18.99 is a bit lower than gun shows, and shipping is free on orders over $50. I just ordered 5 boxes.
